Face it this guy gets hate because he was traded for the European golden boy. Young has potential to be an outstanding player

Are you honestly suggesting that Euros get high praise in the NBA? Are you kidding me? They are booed at every turn, hated, nitpicked, and considered a bust before they even play a single game.

There is a big media narrative that doncic is 100% the best player and shouldn’t have been passed over. Talking heads on every network on tv and twitter.

Because what he did has literally never been done before. In general, euro prospects get tons of disrespect

However, personally I feel that Atlanta should have drafted Mo Bamba instead of Trae. Just my opinion though- I don't want to cause an uproar!

Bamba was my guy if they didn't pick Trae. I always felt Schlenk could have pullled a deal off with Memphis for the 4th pick or even a trade with Orlando. Probably too pro-active for a young GM to make tho.

But if you add Zion to this group it will make for a crazy team atmosphere. Add another swing player from the DAllas pick. Maybe even flip Prince if it warranted it. Don't mind me, just dreaming out loud.

Trae
Romeo Langford perhaps
Zion
Collins
??

Where is Prince? He is a stud with all star potential imo.

Trae
Langford / Grimes / Garland
Prince
Zion
Collins

Huerter / Spellman off the bench. Question is can that team be good defensively?

Watched majority of that game, not sure if it was testament to how good Trae is or to how bad the Cavs are tbh. He did play well against Conley tho too so lets see

Trae is must watch tv. His play making ability in the half court set is stuff you just can’t teach. He’s pretty much perfect for the modern nba.

Damian Lillard seems like a good upside comp for Trae.

Worst case scenerio, Brandon Jennings who dropped 55 in his seventh NBA game.

it's really nothing to write home about since it's his 3rd game. That's why you have scouts for a reason. that game is a scout's ultimate wet dream. since he showcased himself enough to have defensive tactics drawn up.

still a mean feat tho. i give em that

I don't understand these comparisons. People do realize that Trae's vision is elite? In what world is that the case or even close to the case for players like Lillard or Jennings?

You may want to actually watch him play before you start throwing out ridiculous comps.

His passing alone destroys both of these comps.

False. He looked good as well vs Conley and the Grizzlies.

Meh it been 3 games. I still think as the season goes on he'll struggle to finish around the rim. I can kinda see the Brandon Jennings comparison in terms of his build and shot selection.

NO ones saying he’s a lock to the HOF or anything but you don’t think it’s impressive feat that shouldn’t be talked about?

I'm not so sure about Lillard. I think Harden is a better comparison. Or a more aggressive Steve Nash. Or maybe Gilbert Arenas with a more stable personality. At least if we're talking upside. It isn't like he's a sure thing to reach those heights - nobody ever is - but that's the upside he has and I think he's well on his path. He can score from anywhere and everywhere and sees the floor really, really well. I don't think people realized just how bad his college team was without him. He had nobody to pass to and still managed to find players to pass to anyway. The Hawks are a bad team right now, too, but it isn't the same. He has better scorers around him and he's going to do his thing. I don't hate the Brandon Jennings comp, but Trae is already a better shooter than Jennings ever was. Brandon Jennings with an ability to score reasonably efficiently from all over the floor would have been a regular allstar.

No, i dont. was it an excellent game? yes. does it deserve its own thread on the general board for conversation? absolutely not... sure if hawks fans want their own thread on their forum that makes sense.

but its really not worth general dicsussion. a rooke had an great game in week 1. happens multiple times every year. its one game, not indicitative of anything. same as if he sucked 3 games in a row, not worth a thread

Great game. Didn't see this coming from him this quickly. Good sign.

you didn't see it happening at all. Pretty sure you had Trae outside your top 10 on your big board.

No, I didn't have him in my top-10, close to 15-17 range and I still stand by that. Doesn't mean I didn't think he'd have unbelievable games every now in then.

  you still stand behind your big board? You still have Bonga and Musa in your top 7???? Mikal Bridges #3! Not to mention Vanderbilt, Troy brown and Melvin Fraser ahead of Trae??

Might be time to pull the plug on that garbage.
