Denver Nuggets have Cap Space to sign or trade for a Max Player
How will they use the 35-40M cap space they have?
Who will be their realistic target to compliment Murray and Jokic?

Re: Denver Nuggets have Cap Space to sign a Max Player
Honestly this could be the best team for KD to lead to a championship(outside the shadow of Curry) when you look at all the FA options. I doubt he's going there, so its most likely a Tobias Harris or DeMarcus Cousins, Khris Middleton.
Splitting it on 2-3 really good rotation players wouldn't be awful either. Marcus Morris, KCP, and Julius Randle would be a good way to add three solid players and have a great team vs an overpay on a max contract to a guy like Harris or Middleton.

Basketball wise it's definitely the best place for KD outside of GS. However if he leaves GS it's not going to be for basketball reasons.

I cant see Denver pick up Millsaps option. The big guys like Durant, Klay, Kwahi I think already know where they are signing even before the season started. I agree Tobias is a realistic target that fits with the young group.

Are they interested in picking up Carmelo for the minimum to finish out his career with the team he started with in 2018 or 19? Else they would be an interesting team for a big name FA to go to in 2019. Tobias would be a great fit.

Denver first needs to sign Murray's rookie extension and then look at FA players. Than we have MPJ and Vanderbilt who i believe would be great next season. So chasing "BIG FA NAMES" is not the priority.

Ofcourse Murray will sign a maximum. Next summer will be the only time they will have cap space

Denver would be a great landing spot for KD (or any other potential max salary wing), but I would argue the 'definitely'.
The LA teams could both field great supporting casts, Philadelphia is already pretty good and would be amazing with an additional KD. The New York teams might be able to clear space and add another superstar to KD.
Sacramento, Milwaukee or even maybe Dallas could turn-around their teams and have some interesting pieces/building blocks to add to KD.

Re: Denver Nuggets have Cap Space to sign or trade for a Max Player
I don't see any top-tier realistic free agent targets for Denver, unless they want to throw the max at Tobias Harris or something (don't do that). Maybe a trade? They should prioritize defense at PF and SF, they need someone who can try to guard the LeBrons, Kawhis, and KD's of the world in the playoffs.

they should use that cap to help them trade for a marquee player and try to get them to stay, don't think one would really consider them in free agency without first being traded there.

Re: Denver Nuggets have Cap Space to sign or trade for a Max Player
kelp me out here...
I'm seeing Denver at 90.1M in guaranteed salary; that's for 11 players, so call it 91 M with a cap charge. There is the issue of Trey Lyles and his 10M cap-hold, but if Denver renounces him they would still have that 91M guaranteed
the cap is projected to be 109M. That leaves Denver with 18M in space, not 35-40M. I must be missing something

Re: Denver Nuggets have Cap Space to sign or trade for a Max Player
The curse of small market team.
The perfect place for an elite forward to spend his prime years as perfect fit in league TOP5 team. But we all know Durant, Leonard, Butler... will never take seriously Nuggets as option next summer, as LeBron and George didn't this summer.
So, Denver only can overpaid very good but not quite elite guy. Tobias Harris, Chris Middleton... etc... Or for missing new forward starter to use trade instead of FA market already this season before trade deadline. Big package of several useful players Barton+Plumlee+IT+Lyles+2021FRP for one single forward from team desperately needs the depth to reach playoff should be enough (DeRozan, Otto Porter, Josh Richardson, Aaron Gordon...) or even to use Gary Harris too and trying to get some true guard/forward star under 3+ seasons contract. But for any eventual trade in which is involved current SF starter Will Barton, team must wait for January 15.

Any of the wings will fit perfectly here, hope they do get a star though.

Re: Denver Nuggets have Cap Space to sign or trade for a Max Player
Wait, how do they get to the max space?
Jokic - 27.5mil
Harris - 17.8
Plumlee - 14
Barton - 12.7
MPJr - 3.3
Craig - 2.0
Vanderbilt - 1.6
Morris 1.5
That 8 guaranteed contracts for next season for over 80mil.
Then you have the non-guaranteed contracts: Murray (4.4), JHG (3.3), Lydon (2.1), Beasley (2.7)...which gets them to ~92mil.
If they waive Millsap (which they will) and renounce all their FAs and exceptions they're going to have about $14mil in space...even if they cut Lydon and Beasley they're nowhere close to max salary. Am I missing something?

This is correct. That also doesn’t take into consideration the cap hold for their 1st round pick. If they could unload Plumlee and not take back salary it gets them somewhere close to 30 million

Brooklyn owns their first rounder.
But yes, they're nowhere near the max. Not sure where the OP got this from?

Yeah they’d have to unload Plumlee to even get close. The Plumlee contract was a disastrous decision (even though he’s a decent player).

Crap, that’s correct.
