"According to Synergy Sports, Griffin uses possessions as the ball-handler in the pick-and-roll nearly three times as often as he rolls, turning the defining sequence of his career upside-down."
What he is doing this year is amazing. Career best 25/9/5. He's basically playing Point Guard and running the offense, while also being the team's most dominant scorer, and arguably most deadly outside shooter. He's always been a Point Forward for the Clippers to some degree and primary playmaker after CP3, but what he's done this year goes to another level. He leads the team in usage, assists, passes, time of possession etc.
He's shooting 41% on pullup 3's, while taking more per game than Kyrie, KD, Lebron and McCollum to name a few. I'm really proud to see Blake restablish himself as an NBA superstar, while being healthy and very happy in Detroit. The city has truly embraced him as well and the fans are starting to get more into games.

He is great, but sometimes it feels like he is punding the air out of the ball.
The Pistons game would be even better if their nominal point guard was a better off-ball player.

Re: Sports Illustrated: Blake Griffin's game is revolutionary.
KD and Steph on Blake's changes recently.
“Blake is not playing like a traditional big, in my opinion,” Durant said. “He’s shooting a lot of 3s and handling the ball in pick-and-roll at the top of the key. But to have two big guys that you just can’t switch anybody on, that’s the new evolution of going back to the two bigs. You have bigs that go to the perimeter, shoot 3s and initiate offense, but, also, score in the post and play in the pick-and-roll as a roll man.
“I think Blake is well-rounded as a player, and he’s getting better every single year. He’s adding the step-back 3, the off-the-dribble 3, and it’s making him tough to guard.”
The Warriors are very familiar with Griffin, as he was a division foe for nearly a decade, but the Pistons’ version is just a little bit different.
“From my vantage point, he did a lot of (facilitating), at times (in Los Angeles), but … obviously, he had [Chris Paul] and he ran a lot of offense, but Blake ran the offense and was able to see the floor, get to his spots, and it was a lot of isolation-type stuff,” Curry said. “Obviously, he’s added a 3-point shot a little bit more, and that adds a different dimension.
“He’s a little bit more dynamic because you don’t know if it’s coming from the perimeter or the block, or whether to double-team or play one-on-one. He keeps you guessing.”

He has improved, with his injuries it took a bit of his athleticism away but made him work on his jumper. Plus playing with cp3 limited his game because he likes to hold the ball for 23 seconds lol.

He's a generational talent who's salvaged his public facing legacy this season. Anybody who's been paying attention has seen the skill set growing, but I'm sure Blake himself is glad the national media is finally acknowledging his growth as a player. Health was a huge factor in this as well of course.

Kennard and Bullock both started together last night for the first time I believe this season due to respective injuries. Both can be 40% three point shooters. Blake started off really big this season before teams realized that Johnson, GRIII Brown couldn't shoot threes or space the floor to save their lives and Reggie and Ish ain't much of 3point shooters either (Ish started off the season hot from three though, which aided Blake's big start). With both our shooters hopefully back healthy and their injuries behind opposing defenses will not be able to collapse in on Blake, daring him to pass out to non-shooter wings we had on the floor with him anymore.
I do agree that Reggie Jackson is less than ideal, but Kennard can be a secondary ball handler I believe. And Pistons are on the down low working with Khyri Thomas to play the point - he'd be the 3&D point guard mold we hope. If we can have Kennard, a hot Galloway (he runs very hot or very cold) and Bullock on the floor with Griffin and Dre - those two bigs could be unguard-able, especially with teams who have adopted small ball and don't have two starter minute bigs.

I've always considered him a Bizarro version of LeBron after he came into his own as a ballhandler in 2015 and dominated the Spurs. Good to see him putting the league on notice.
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

Yep. He's closer to a poor man's Lebron than Karl Malone or Charles Barkley. Since 2013 or 2014 this has been the case.Heej wrote:I've always considered him a Bizarro version of LeBron after he came into his own as a ballhandler in 2015 and dominated the Spurs. He does a bit too much slow ball-handling on the perimeter for my liking + still looks the most efficient when muscling his way to the rim, but it's nevertheless fascinating watching this version of Griffin.

His resurgence in Det sort of reminds me of what Webber did in Sactown. Very similar imo.

Casey called this in July
https://www.detroitbadboys.com/2018/7/21/17595726/dwane-casey-goal-for-blake-griffin-is-to-be-the-best-passing-power-forward-in-the-league

“My goal for him is to be the best passing power forward in the league, which he can do,” Casey says. “People look at Draymond Green, they look at all these other guys—point fives and point fours. Blake can be a prototypical point four because he’s very intelligent, he has great passing skills. What’d he average last year? 6.5 assists per game with the Pistons? There are a lot of ways to measure success beyond just points, and Blake has the ability to do that.”

Steph is gonna miss ripping his postups with the spacing Doc was trotting
while KD is gonna miss blocking his short arm dunk attempts whenever they go to LA.

Yeah glad to see him reestablish himself as a legit star after so many had started to underrate him for no other reason than to sound smarter. As long as he's healthy he can play at this level no doubt. What's so amazing is how much his game has evolved since his rookie year when all he seemed to be was a dunker.

Yeah he’s been really good. The fact that he creates a majority of his own baskets inside and out along with running the offense so much has been fun to watch.
He’s very skilled with a high IQ and a competitive motor. Even after being paid he’s always going at 100% out there.
