2019 FIBA Intercontinental Cup Has Officially Proven The NBA G-League Is A Complete Joke

Post#1 » by Mirotic12 » Sun Feb 17, 2019 11:46 pm

In this forum, every single time any international basketball ever gets mentioned, or anything at all related to it, especially anything related to European basketball, or the EuroLeague specifically - a whole bunch of posters start claiming the NBA G-League is much better than the EuroLeague, than any international national team competition, and that's it's easily the second best basketball league in the world, with the 2nd best players, 2nd highest level of "talent", 2nd best coaches, etc.

If someone questions those assertions, and says the G-League isn't comparable to actual professional leagues around the world, as it's basically just a semi-pro level league, that poster will get hit with a flood of posts accusing them of being a "Euro homer" and other much more colorful comments...

Well, we can now officially declare in this forum that the NBA G-League is an absolute joke competition, that is at a very low level, and that it is certainly many country miles below something like the EuroLeague in level and "talent".

This is thanks to the 2019 FIBA Intercontinental Cup tournament, in which the NBA decided it would send a G-League team, probably naively thinking that any G-League team could compete with any random international pro teams. And now we can finally put this enormous myth about the G-League being in any way at all comparable to any decent pro league to rest, especially the totally absurd myth that a lot of posters here push - that the G-League is better than the EuroLeague.

So, we had the G-League's Austin Spurs, the San Antonio Spurs' NBA G-League affiliate play at the 2019 FIBA Intercontinental Cup against a team from Brazil, and against a team from Argentina. First, let's get something clear, neither of those teams could probably win a single game in an entire EuroLeague season.............

Both teams, Flamengo from Brazil's NBB league, and San Lorenzo from Argentina's LNB league, dominated the G-League team, and blew them out.

Flamengo Rio de Janeiro 90 - Austin Spurs 58

Box Score:

http://www.fiba.basketball/intercontinentalcup/2019/game/1502/Flamengo-Austin-Spurs#|tab=boxscore

San Lorenzo Buenos Aires 77 - Austin Spurs 59

Box Score:

http://www.fiba.basketball/intercontinentalcup/2019/game/1702/San-Lorenzo-Austin-Spurs#tab=boxscore

We can stop with all the "Euro homers" posts whenever someone says G-League is a joke compared to any decent pro league - because it is. Those teams blew out that G-League team, and neither of those teams could win a game in EuroLeague.

Let's not start topics solely for the purpose of gloating/baiting.

Do you have a single quote from this forum of anyone saying specifically that the NBA G-League is better than EuroLeague? I can't imagine anyone on here is dumb enough to actually believe that... The salaries speak for themselves.

Strange move by the NBA, that clearly backfired big time from a marketing point, but good for this forum nonetheless, ad now we can finally put this enormous myth about the G-League being any way at all comparable to any decent pro league to rest, especially the totally absurd myth that a lot of posters here push - that the G-League is better than the EuroLeague.

You are reading into the motive behind the NBA sending a G-League team WAY too much... The NBA, like most posters on this forum, don't care about the FIBA Intercontinental Cup. I didn't even know it existed and I actually watch the now pointless FIBA America's.

Some of the Euroleague fans seriously need to chill with the inferiority complex.

500 million people in Europe to grow talent from.

Better quality basketball and talent across the world is better for all of us.

So TWO games clearly marks a definitive reasoning, one way or the other? :-?

Sample size seems to need fixing, no? :dontknow:

PG: Kemba Walker (32) / Rivers (16) / Felton

I've honestly never once heard anyone claim that the EuroLeague isn't hands down the 2nd best league in the world. The G-League continues to grow, but it's nowhere near the Euroleague. Real Madrid could have made the playoffs in the East last year.

Side note - I would like to see the EuroLeague establish a permanent 16 team league. We could eventually see more NBA vs Euroleague games if that were to happen.

The Spurs didn’t even play a lot of their normal roster. Most of their top scoring and guys (by minutes played) didn’t even play at all or much.

This argument has tons of holes

I think he is mistaking the G League for the NCAA...which is kind of funny considering the rant

Literally cherry picking against a G-League team that's not even middle of the pack, like 5th worst in Western Conference.

Do that against the best G-League team then we'll talk

trash post, trash argument, trash OP.
