I would love to see some videos that go for a longer period of time, say 1980-2018, 1990-2018, 1970-2018 etc... Just to take a look at the most dominant teams over longer periods of time.

Holy crap. The Spurs were never worse than tied for the lead.

Their run is absurd. I think they have like 44 days since Duncan entered the league where they weren't over .500 or something stupid like that. They've not made the playoffs I think 6 times in the last 50 years and the run since Robinson was drafted other than the one year he got hurt leading to Duncan is just stupid.

I mean props to my little Mavs who had a great run with Dirk that would be noteworthy had it not been overshadowed by Duncan and the Spurs happening at the exact same time. And whereas Dirk and the Mavs somehow managed to only meet KG and Kobe 1 time each, they played the Spurs something like 6 or 7 times in the playoffs.

I think they might be the only two teams ever to win 50 games for a decade straight(Dallas did it 11, SAS probably longer) and they did in the same division at the same time. And its not like Houston and Memphis were bad during this stretch either.

That Texas road trip had to just suck for all the other teams. You were looking at very likely gtd L's in SA and Dallas and Houston wasn't going to be easy either.

But yeah the Spurs are just stupid what they have done.

I'm almost embarrassed I've never thought of the Mavs run in these terms.

No need. Outside of 06 and 07 they were always overshadowed by the Lakers and/or Spurs. Those two years the Mavs were arguably the best team in the league. But no reason that Mavs run should have stood out to you.

Didn't help either that between the two Finals runs they had a lot of one and outs. I think they only made the 2nd round once in that span.

But remarkably consistent in the regular season. Dirk's durability a big factor in that he never missed more than a couple games a year prior to 2011.

Other ideas = losses, titles, wins from years farther back in time and include the ABA/NBL/BAA, hall of fame players by franchise, number of head coaches, attendance

For the scoring leader, can you make the X axis purely on time?

It's a little weird to see Kobe's bar continues to grow, yet LeBron's stand still. It took me a few seconds to realize that's season based, so they are not synchronized over time.

Maybe just pick the top 10 scorer, and make your X axis go from 1950 to 2019.

Edit, yeah the Texas domination is insane. Spurs GDP + Pop, Mavs Dirk + Rick, then you have Houston who continues to climb up the ladder WHILE they were rebuilding. Hopefully someone can overtake Spurs in the next 1-2 years.

I see what you're saying! I could have made it a little clearer that a player was done playing at a certain point. I put "By Seasons Played" in the title of the video now, hopefully this makes it a little clearer for people watching!

I could have also made a comparison over the years like you're suggesting but I preferred the format by season because it's easier to compare the players at certain points in their career that way. Especially for players like Kobe that climb up the rankings due to their longevity. This would be difficult to see when comparing over time (1950-2019).

Some crazy stats. Spurs on top, Jazz consistently among the top, LeBron's Cavs/Heat/Cavs never in the list, Houston completed their rebuild while climbing up the ladder 09-13.
