Julius Randle. What does he do?

Post#1 » by UKClipperfan » Fri May 17, 2019 12:10 pm

Had a great season. 21.4 ppg, 8.7 rpg, 3.1 apg

Would have thought he could stay with the Pels to develop his game further, regardless of AD staying or leaving. But the Pels landing Zion complicates things. They're both forwards who cant play small ball C. The Pels are likely to use Zion to get AD to sign the super max. Zion might be so good that AD wants to stay. Randle also has a player option of $9M.

He gonna get pretty nice contract i think. I mean, he is the guy that every team needs. He brings energy on every possession, good on offense, pretty solid on D, he is young and he is only going to get smarter and better on D, especially with his athletic ability. Guys are sometimes bouncing off him, he is strong, very strong guy...

I don't really like his style of play but i respect what he is doing, same as Draymond.

He is basically Zion's floor, except Zion is still more athletic

Dallas will pursue him. He’s from here and we have a glaring hole at PF

I think Sixers should go after him. Play big ball and overpower teams.

I'm pretty sure he get a good but not insane pay bump from someone.

He's probably out of there. Would be nice to see him join his former teammate in D'Lo on the Nets. I think he can fit in pretty well alongside Jarrett Allen.

I'm hoping he ends up in Atlanta, Dallas, or Denver. I feel like his skillset would mesh well with what each of those orgs are building right now.

In today's NBA just sign a few more athletic wings that can help team rebound and start Randle at the 5 and Zion at the 4.

PFs who can’t stretch the floor or play good D are problematic for me. As a starter anyway.....energy guy off the bench....sure.

He did state he wanted to stay in New Orleans long-term but I don't see any way shape or form the Pelicans prioritize Julius over Zion even if Julius had a career season. Minnesota would not be a bad option at the 4 but he probably wants a more featured role so I would not be shocked if he opts for the Nets.

i really don't believe that you pay attention to players defense with a statement like this.

Randle struggles in almost every defensive situation. He can't protect the rim, his effort and focus is very inconsistent, his footwork is poor. His strength and mobility give him some 1 on 1 ability and he can definitely switch a little, but he average length and height make him a bit of a liabilility in most situation. He lacks Draymond potential because he doesn't have Dray's 7'3 wingspan, meat cleaver hands, defensive ferocity and genius anticipation (plus evil sneaky fouling).

There is a version of Julius Randle that becomes a plus defender and as switch everything strong body, maybe like a quicker Marcus Morris. But he's a long ways away right now and looked mostly bad this year.

Julius Randle is one of the best backup PF’s in the league, and probably the worst starting PF in the league. Points off the bench he can do. But his defense submarines everything a good team is trying to do.

He looked pretty good defensively with the Lakers.
That pelicans team with Jrue and AD as their best defender still couldnt defend...i remember AD looking lost at times. Sorry but its coaching more than anything.

Not sure about that. You wanna have Embiid in the paint as much as possible, which is where Randle thrives. But then again Embiid cant play in the paint 24/7 so...

That frontcourt would get eaten alive on defense.

Zion at the 4 needs to paired with a legit 7 footer to balance his lack of height. Preferably an athletic rim runner who protects the rim.

It’s one of the main reasons why the Pelicans want Mitchell Robinson in the AD-to-Knicks trade.

He had a -.13 defensive rpm with the Lakers, and a whopping -1.38 drpm this season. Putting him 93rd amongst qualifying PF’s. In a league of 30 teams lol.

Anthony Davis was 1st last year and 4th this year as a comparison on the same team.

Randle is a black hole defensively. Completely loses his guy off ball and boxing out. There is something missing with him, it’s the strangest and most maddening thing.
