You're just assuming Rich is calling the shots though, is it absurd to think that Anthony Davis prefers to live in New York or Los Angeles ?

Rich Paul works for A. Davis.
A. Davis wants to play for the Lakers (or Knicks) and Rich Paul is trying to achieve that. ASAP.

His agent should be doing his best to fulfill AD’s interest. Else he will not be his agent for much longer.
And that interest is not being traded to Boston, because clearly he does not want to go there.

Paul is saying stuff, but NOW Davis is in control. he's all po'd about the hit his image took after Paul blurted that demand midseason, saying "I'm the CEO of my company". so I am assuming what Paul is now saying has Davis's ok. but I don't think Davis understands perception

He's doing everything that Davis wants and you're kidding yourself if you don't think it has a positive effect on the business that's going to come his way as a result.

I think he understands it perfectly. He doesn’t care about it nor should he. The man has one eyebrow for crying out loud.

Plan working as expected. Rich Paul gets to viewed as the bad guy while AD keeps his imagine as clean as possible during the request.

He isn't manipulating anyone. Davis is letting him do the dirty work, so Davis doesn't appear as the bad guy. I mean he could fire Rich Paul if he wasn't ok with the way he is handling the situation

This is exactly what AD wanted, as he doesn’t have enough of a backbone to do things himself. So he hired someone to do it for him who happens to be a total scumbag.
Even if he gets what he wants, I think he will end up regretting it because he will end up stuck on a losing team with an aging LeBron as his only help because the Lakers will have to give up every asset they have to get him and then will have trouble getting FAs because of the circus over there.

can we stop removing agency and responsiblity from players? they're grown men, who have their own advisers and family members and staff, etc...if Davis wanted to stay in NOP he'd stay
you can argue Davis is a idiot, but it has nothing to do with Rich, who's also an idiot.

Probably. He doesn't come off as supremely intelligent. Most of these guys come off as being somewhere between average and well below average when it comes to intelligence. I'd wager that Anthony Davis is dumber than about 90% of the people I work with, for whatever that means. So yea, I'd wager he isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.

Rich Paul is a great agent .. he WANTS you to think he’s manipulating AD, that way it takes the heat off of his client
