How can you tell when players are playing nervous/tight?

Post#1 » by Cyrusman122000 » Thu Jun 13, 2019 2:38 am

How can you tell and differentiate when a player is playing nervous and tight vs just having a bad shooting night or poor game like all players have from time to time.

Not making crisp passes. Apprehensive and not smooth in their shot.

forcing shots, shooting out of rhythm, indecisiveness, hesitation, not shooting open shots, lack of confidence... another one is just a look.. roll back to george hill's face when he shot his free throw in game 1 before the JR smith gaff.. that blank stare he had when he was waiting for the ref to give him the ball, i had a strong sense he was going to miss..

Sometimes when they overcompensate by being unnecessarily casual or friendly on the court.

Curry in game 7 of the 2016 Finals with the behind the back pass. Lowry laughing with LeBron in the 4th quarter of game 1 in last year's ECSF. Deep down, these guys were tight.

“The other day I saw one of his games. He was running with the ball at a hundred per cent full speed, I don’t know how many touches he took, maybe five or six, but the ball was glued to his foot. It’s practically impossible.”

You can tell from their eyes. It's the deer in the headlights look. Their pupils dilate and their eyelids open up more. When they're locked in they look like Kawhi
LeBron's NBA Cup MVP is more valuable than either of KD's Finals MVPs. This is the word of the Lord

Yeah pretty much this. Also some more tells pictured here in JR, if you look at the positioning of hands and the overall posture. I'm sure at the end of that stare would be the deer in the headlights look.

Doesnt take the open shot, when they do it's their mechanics is different. Over compensating which usually leads to overshooting it. Over passing.

Indecisiveness- leads to bad passes/missed passes, pump fakes when they could’ve taken the shot, and foolish turnovers.

It’s usually not to hard to tell when a player is nervous.
