Marks > Ainge

Was talking with some of my celtics friends from work. They were thrilled with the Kemba signing and minimizing KD/Kyrie to brooklyn. saying Ainge turned a potentially bad situation into a great one and boston will be better next season. got us into an ainge vs. marks debate where they said ainge is far superior.

To me, its clear marks is the better GM:

1) Marks prioritizes culture. Nets have elite chemistry and a great team first culture. guys like russell came in and turned into model citizens. Boston seems to always have drama and if rozier is right it has been toxic there

2) Ainge had all of marks picks, yet Bostons young talent isnt far ahead of brooklyns. Levet was taken 22nd but is on par with jaylen brown. Allen, dinwiddie, joe harris. kurucs seem a deeper collection then what boston has and tatum doesnt seem to be the cant miss star he was thought to be

3) Ainge lost 2 all-star assets for nothing in horford and kyrie. he held on to his assets instead of making trades. marks moved salary and got 2 superstars to sign with the nets in KD/Durant

Marks was dealt an awful deck, turned around the culture, the team, cleaned up a cap mess, got lotto talent late in the draft, took ainges best player and then went and signed durant. from where i sit, he took ainges lunch

Ainge is a four out of ten as a GM. Obviously Marks is better.

Well hopefully signing Kemba should get them started in the right direction. He's a good player.

Can't both be good at what they do?

But for real, kudos to Marks but that doesn't mean Ainge sucks at his job... Celtics are just fine.

Honestly why would anyone vote for Ainge?

Well the Nets biggest signing probably has a career altering injury at age 30, but sure, let’s all start patting ourselves on the back without ever winning a single playoff series. That doesn’t sound premature at all....

It helps when your two big signings decide to play together in NYC and you are one of two teams in that state (taking discounts to get a third friend to join). Just saying.

Props to Marks on the turnaround. Dude's a beast deserves the accolades. Ainge has a ring though, Marks has to deliver. Just getting these guys doesn't mean **** until he wins it all. Ainge has been at the helm of a team that's missed the playoffs once in the last decade (three times in the last 15 years). Don't sleep on his credentials.

The goal is to get banners. Ainge has delivered, Marks has not (yet).

Damnit Prok. I can only control what I do. I can't control what you do. I'm voting Billy King.

A recency bias poll on the general board? Talk about the cherry on top of a day full of surprises!

Durant won't even play next year dude, and he has a worse injury than Gordan Hayward did and at an older age. Also, the Celtics got a point guard just as good as the one the Nets got but is healthier and less of a head case.

That's not to mention there is a huge list of things Danny Ainge has done right as a GM. I don't know why people just say the only thing he ever did was get Kevin Garnett. He has done pretty well at most aspects of GMing. The standards for him is just much higher than most GMs.

Marks does not prioritize culture more than any other GM. He would gladly throw away culture for talent just like nearly every GM, hence why he signed Jordan, Durant and Irving - those guys are not "culture" guys.

I didn't like what the Nets did today - it detracted from my opinion from Marks, but he is still a much more effective GM than the feckless and incompetent Ainge

Ainge has stumbled but not to his full fault. Who knew Hayward would get hurt.

As for Marks, the man is on FIRE!! Just brilliant moves. Nets are now the class of the East.
