2019/2020 Western Conference Projected Standings

Post#1 » by tv24lakers » Fri Jul 12, 2019 3:26 pm

What is your prediction for the upcoming 2019/2020 Western Conference standings (top 8)? SlimShady83 posted a similar poll on the Lakers board, which I would like to extend out to other fan bases.

Following the Westbrook trade to the Rockets and barring any new significant player movement or injuries, here is my top 8:
1. Denver
2. Rockets
3. Clippers
4. Jazz
5. Portland
6. GSW
7. Lakers
8. Spurs

Allow me to clarify the ranking is not suggestive of where I feel the teams will fall in terms of playoff success.

I really think we're getting a separated by 1-5 games 1-8 again. A team like Utah could be anywhere from 1-7 depending.
If the Clippers win the championship next year I'm getting banned from RealGM

Agreed.

1. Denver
2. Rockets
3. Clippers
4. Jazz
5. Portland
6. GSW
7. Lakers

Taking from the OP, I could see any of the top 4 here being 1. And GS, POR, LAL could surprise and jump up here too. Going to be a bloodbath in the West. East is charmin soft again.

I'm on board with the OP's rankings. I'd have to look closer before the season starts, but that looks about right. I see MoneyTalks agrees, too. Seems like we're building a consensus!

Lakers are essentially a veteran team. They will just try to make the POs and won't worry about seeding.
I think the clippers and healthy gsw are the teams most will want to avoid in the first round.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

They are no that old. 3 of 4 of their top players are under 30.

This is silly.

538 has the Sixers as the best team in the league, Rox at #2, Lakers at #3. Clips were at #6.

The disrespect the Lakers get in this forum is abysmal. If you put them at 7th with the asterisk "I don't know what to expect," then THAT'S respectable. I haven't seen a single person do that.

My top 8:
1. Clippers
2. Blazers
3. Lakers
4. Warriors
5. Nuggets
6. Rockets
7. Jazz
8. Pelicans

Pop retires after the season.

The disrespect that you consistently show the Lakers makes your opinion lack any sort of weight in anything basketball related.

It's a players league but chemistry usually takes time. We don't know if all the star movement will work.

I think Den and Port have the most continuity so will be on top.

Stars will be load managed to 60 games so this will go again't the teams that added free agents b since depth will be an issue.

How am I disrespecting the Lakers? There's several of reasons to believe that the Lakers may not even be a fringe playoff team, let alone a actual playoff team. Lebron James is turning 35 years old in December, the Lakers have a terrible bench, the Lakers filled in their roster with below average role players and scrubs, they also have a Head Coach in Frank Vogel, who wouldn't be a good coach on today's NBA,as we have seen when he was coaching the Orlando Magic. Not to mention that i also see a lot of Chemistry issues developing with this team.People ahve been really overrating the Lakers.I have seen many people believing that the Lakers will win 50+ games and making atleast to the 2nd round of the playoffs or even the Conference Finals.I see many being disappointed with the Lakers next season if that's what they expect. A almsot 35 year old Lebron James and Anthony Davis alone isn't enough for the Lakers to make the playoffs, especially in the Western Conference where there are atleast 9 good teams with a star player, good coaching, with good roster depth, etc

No Superstar will be load manged to 60 games other than Kawhi even if their team is doing really well.
I have no idea how this has become accepted by media and fans.
No Superstar other than Kawhi wants to play only 60 games out of 82.

Where to begin.

Below average players? Jared Dudley was the veteran leader of the Nets, a playoff team, who is capable of playing good minutes. Either Kuzma or Cousins will be coming off the bench. Javale McGee is coming off the bench. Quin Cook who played very well for GS is coming off the bench. People say how much Avery Bradley sucked as a Grizzly. I promise you, one healthy off-season under his wing and playing next to two superstars, you'll see the 28 year old (still relatively young) playing elite defense again.

Jordan won ships when he was 38. I don't care that LeBron is 35.

Frank Vogel coached a team who's best player is Aaron Gordon? Do you remember what he did with the Pacers? They were a shot away from beating Lebron.

To put the Lakers at 11th seed is incredibly unintelligible. Go look at 538, a news site that uses statistics with all their predictions. They have the Lakers as third best team IN THE LEAGUE behind the Sixers and Rockets.

I also read your posts during the Kawhi saga. I admire how dedicated you are to your Laker hatred. If they are hoisting up a championship in June, I cant wait to hear your excuses or saying how they "didnt deserve it."

I think some teams (DEN, HOU, LAC...) might go extra hard for the 1 seed. Either that or the top 2 seeds. We might actually see a real race rather than prolonged, widespread load management. Teams will want to play whoever falls into that eighth spot. Or the last two spots, if there are injuries. It's possible, anyway.
