RealGM Top 25 Player Poll-#11 2019-20

Post#1 » by Filthadelphia » Sat Jul 27, 2019 11:08 pm

Your favorite offseason debate is back by popular demand!
Thanks to everyone who voted last go around Im excited to see where the 2nd annual edition ends up.

Here's the Rules:
-Vote ONE player per poll. You'll be able to change your vote just like last year for those indecisive folks.
-The criteria of ranking the players is YOUR OWN. The whole point of bringing this to the GB is to attract the widest amount of votes/perspectives on the game as possible to form a true consensus. Some people value shooting over defense, team success over indivdual prowess etc. I want to bake all that in to this poll set no matter how chaotic.
-Each poll a player will win and then be taken out of the field. There will be 25 polls in all.
-There are only 10 possible poll options so I will start with the 10 guys who I personally believe will round out the top 10 in most people's eyes.
-As each poll commences I ask you to COMMENT IN THE THREAD your vote for who should be added in the next poll. There will be a large list of players yet to be added to the field below that you can look over to make your vote. I will tally up the votes in the comments at the end of each poll and add the winner accordingly. For example, if you want Marc Gasol added in the next poll just comment "Marc Gasol" or "Gasol".
-If a poll is overwhelmingly skewed towards one guy I will try, time willing, to edit it early and move on to the next one.
-If there is a tie in the poll. There will be a run-off poll created with just the tying parties to determine a winner. The losers of the runoff will then be added back into the field of 10 for the next poll.
-Feel free to ask any questions via pm or comment
-Feel Free to comment on your reasoning for a pick and why

THANKS AGAIN TO EVERYONE FOR PARTICIPATING!!!!

Definitely Jimmy Buckets now. He was consensus higher than this before his trade request and I can’t see him being unhappy his first year in Miami when that’s the team he selected.

Nominate Pascal Siakam.

So is Kevin Durant all of a sudden not going to be a top 25 player just because he is injured? I don't think that's how it works.

Nominate Ben Simmons

Uh no it isn't. He's really overrated on here. I don't think he is a top 15 player at all. Yea he's good defensively, but he needs more offense too.

I take you don't watch the Jazz much. He anchored a 50-win team on both ends. Offensively, he's an elite roll-man who led the league in dunks and FG%. He's the #1 option offensively, who draws defenders into the paint. The impact he has on the game is greater than everyone on this list, aside from a healthy KD.

By comparison, Westbrook is inefficient to the point he hurts his team offensively, and Butler plays as a 2nd or 3rd option next to other All Stars. The last time Butler was a #1 option on offense was on the lottery-bound Bulls.

Vote: Butler
Nominate: Oladipo

Also, I think it's pretty clear by now that KD won't be selected in the Top 25. As he shouldn't, since he won't play in 19-20.

Picked Gobert. Shocked he's losing this bad already. His impact overall on games is better than anyone here.

He's the best defender in the league and completely shut down the second best offense of the last two years with a pale imitation of giannis's supporting cast in the playoffs. Add decent scoring to league best defence and him being "overrated" is hilarious.

For me this is between Butler and Gobert. Honorable mention to Kyrie, Green, and Towns...but those three have tougher arguments in their favor.

Butler has become underrated IMO. It's been a weird year for him between the MIN drama and being marginalized with PHI and I think that's made people forget just how good he is. He's consistently been at the top of all the impact metrics for years. If he can stay healthy, I think he'll prove himself to be one of the top players in the league again. Potentially standing beside some the best wings in the game (PG, Kawhi, and LeBron) and not behind them.

Gobert is outstanding, I've made the case for him several times before...but for now I'm going with Butler.

Butler's not a bad pick at all. I went with Draymond for the second straight round.
Nominate: Horford

Why are people nominating Ben Simmons before Chris Paul? Do you guys really think those two players are even close in ability?

Trajectories for next season. Clearly headed in opposite directions IMO.

Edit: Didn't even realize when I posted, but Ben already had him beat in WS/48 and BPM last season (RS and playoffs). Crushed him in playoff NET rating too.

I agree a lot are forgetting how good he was. He was a true franchise player until last season, but at age 34 on an OKC team in purgatory IDK if you can make the case for him as a top 15 player anymore. I say this as a huge fan of his game.
