Andre Drummond is on a beer diet

Ever wish you could drink a beer a day — and call it a diet?
Well now you can, and claim that it’s what the pros do. That is, if you ask Detroit Pistons center Andre Drummond.
Drummond told the Detroit Free Press that he is on a “beer diet,” believe it or not. He has cut red meat from his diet, which means that in order to reach the requisite amount of calories he needs, Drummond drinks a beer a day.
His choices, according to the story? Miller Lite and Corona.
Not the greatest of alcoholic beverages, but hey, he is living the American Dream.
“If you do it the right way, it’s actually not bad for you and that’s why I’m doing it,” Drummond said to the Free Press.
The 25-year-old Drummond is the third-heaviest player in the league behind Pelicans rookie Zion Williamson and Dallas’ Boban Marjanovic. He is 6-foot-11 and 279 pounds, so he probably needs a lot of calorie intake to maintain the stature needed, especially to compete with other big men in the paint.
Drummond is coming off his best season, averaging 17.3 points and 15.6 rebounds in 79 games for the Pistons last year. So as long as it works, who’s to question the man?

I am pretty sure something like 2 units of alcohol inhibits protein synthesis by like 50% for however long it's in your system. To be fair he's 2x a small sized male, so the effects may be less pronounced but I don't see how this is benefical at all.

I was watching Amazon's All or Nothing the other night and it showed Luke Kuechly at the facility all by himself watching tape. And I was thinking to myself, here you have one of the best defenders in the game showing what makes him one of the best in the game. You would think the other linebackers on the team would think to themselves, hey maybe I should go in and watch as much tape as Luke, maybe that could get me better. It just goes to show how much more serious some of these guys take these sports.
I bring this up because damn don't you think Drummond wouldnt be doing these dumbass diets like this, but would spend the money and get himself a professional nutritionist. You would think these guys hear the stories about how much money and time LeBron spends in keeping himself in top shape. Ya you may not have the same kind of money as LeBron to spend on your body, but there is a middle ground between spending over a mil a year on your body and a freaking beer diet.

I love how the article rationalizes this by saying "he cut out red meat which means he has to make up the calories by drinking a beer" as if this is the only way to get the sufficient calories.

Belgium monks will go on fasts where they only thing they consume for calories is beer....which they brew. I'm not gonna lie...I openly admit I drink a bit too much but I CAN control myself. I'm not sure I could stop drinking beers if I'm on a fast. Even 2 would have me "feeling loose" and I can't imagine not just going into pound beer mode due as much to hunger as the increasing buzz.
