Bol Bol expected to get two way deal next season

Weird. He was projected to go pretty early and obviously fell to the middle of the second round. Thought he'd at least get a normal second round scale deal at least.

Seems reasonable given the intensity and injury concerns he has...

Thought he'd get a guaranteed contract but spend all his time in the G league in his rookie year. Denver doesn't really have minutes to spend trying to develop him when they have their eyes on something bigger this season.

???

doesn't mean it's not guaranteed, just means that they expect him to play for both G League and NBA team this year...this is normal for the majority of 2nd rounders, especially Bol who needs to rehab his foot.

not really weird at all when he has to prove himself worthy of one and has yet to do so and the odds are actually leaning towards him not doing so given the severity of concerns about his feet long term given how weak he is as is and the need to pile on more weight on those toes etc

Meaning he'd get a better than usual deal for a 2nd rounder even with the foot issue because of his tremendous upside.

This was the expected outcome while he continues to rehab. He can spend some time in the G-League and with the team while not taking up a roster spot in place of someone who is ready to play.

Well, you can only have 2 two ways, so if they Sign Bol Bol to a two way, one of the others would have to be released or promoted to the 15 man roster.

Can a second rounder refuse to sign a 2-way deal? Unclear on what the rights of the 2nd round draft pick are in that situation...

You'd think they'd want him with the team seeing as Denver doesn't have a G-League affiliate so they can't closely monitor him.

As far as I know - no.

Ky Bowman declined partaking in the draft because he didn't want a team to draft him in the second round and possibly only giving him a two way contract. But when it was all said and done, he ended up signing a two way contract with the Warriors.

Uh, there are players that flat out tell teams they will not sign a two-way that don't get drafted. So I have to wonder why he could not say no?

Anyone else?

Glad for him. Wasn't sure if he was even going to make the team.

Was hard to watch his unsettling body language during the draft as he slid from projected top 10 pick to past 40. Hope he can prove his doubters wrong

if im him id be a little upset going to a team thats so big heavy, even once he's healthy playing time isnt even a viable option as their trying to do big things and be a top 4team in the west next season, he might as well look toward 2020 season hoping millsap moves on

Can they still sign him to a rookie scale deal next year, if they like what they see in the G league this year?

Of course.

Denver does the same in summer of 2017 with signing a two-way contract with 2017 2nd round pick Monte Morris and very next summer (2018) Nuggets sign with Monte Morris a standard multi-year contract.

There is no rookie scale for second round picks, they can sign for anything from minimum to maximum or to a two way. No player below 49th pick has ever signed a two-way, so at the 44th pick Bol Bol would be a first. There is also no specific exception for 2nd rounders, they must be signed with cap space or an exception, such as minimum salary exception. That's limited to 2 yrs though, so often a portion of MLE is used, to sign longer contracts.

It's absolutely not "normal for the majority of 2nd rounders." A two way contract IS NOT a 2nd round rookie deal. They are different things. Players on rookie deals can move freely between the NBA and G-league affiliates. Two-way deals are much less from a salary standpoint (somewhere around 80k and non-guaranteed) and have maximum NBA service time.

Under the table agreement somewhere methinks.

Big heavy? Not so sure about that.
