What's everyone expectation of Hayward's upcoming season? He'll be two seasons removed from that horrific injury and another year in Brad Steven's system. Do you seem him getting back to his pre-injury form? And if he does, where does that put Boston in the east ?

More mediocrity for $30+ million

His best year in Utah was 21/5/5 shooting 47%fg/40%3pt/84%FT. Don't see him getting anywhere near that again but I could see him being a 15/4/4 guy.

hard to really project on that team with so many shoot first guys (kemba, tatum, kanter...)

If that contending team had valid 1 and 2 options, yes. The other problem is that most teams don't want to pay $33M for their 3rd option.

He'll never get back to his pre-injury state, but he'll probably be better than last season. Who knows though.

According to the team he's been at the practice facility 7 days a week working out and he looks great. I think people don't realize he needed a 2nd surgery, so when last season began he'd only been recovering for a few months, not the whole year he was off. Hard to say what kind of stats he'll put up but I'm rooting for him and looking forward to a big bounce back year.

Continue to come off the bench and be a role player. Injury has robbed his career away. Its unfortunate but everyone has to face reality.

It depends on the Celtic's system, imo. What made him so great in Utah is that he had a particular fit in an offense that was designed around selfless basketball and finding open shots.

He was never a "give me the ball and let me score" type of player, so if you are expecting that, you're going to be out of luck. He will give up the ball to someone with a better shot, but I don't know if the rest of the Celtics will do that for him in return.

I'm not gonna say he'll be as good as he was in Utah, but I do think he'll regain some of that form. A lot of guys have one bad year off of an injury and he wasn't even healthy enough to play until right as the season was starting. He should at least be an above average starter even if he's not quite all-star level.

No, he told everyone we all have to face the reality of his prediction of something that hasn't happened yet, a la Nostradamus.

Troll above said "more mediocrity for $30M" and I didn't say anything about that because it's an opinion. This guy is saying he knows the reality of the future and everyone has to accept it. Different thing.

Minor correction: I'd call that 16/17 season 22/5/4 on 47%fg/40%3pt/84% ft.

From the sounds of how his workouts are going, I suspect he will come back physically and mentally able to be the player he was, but it probably won't happen on the Celtics, who have a lot of guys looking to get theirs offensively.

15/5/5 on 46/36 shooting sounds about right to me for this season.

Even though he's a Celtic, I hope he can get back to his pre-injury status. I can't see how anyone could predict his health with much certainty either way, but gotta hope for the best.

C's system is predicated on the same things as Utah's system, we just got far away from that last season. So yeah, hopefully we'll get back to the chemistry, selflessness and ball and player movement that had us outperforming expectations in previous years. That is certainly Gordon's niche. I don't think many fans are expecting him to be an alpha iso scorer.
