20 seconds in. He mispronounces his own name also. Why is he the only person on Earth who pronounces the common name "Stephen" with an 'f' sound? Not only that, his mother, Sonya, pronounces her name "Sahn-yuh." Christ. Stef's a smart guy, though. I just think that the vid is funny.

It's his name, pretty sure he's the expert on how it's pronounced.

With a "v" sound. So it can be "Stefen" (with the ph as in phone) or "Steven". I assume it's just a regional dialect thing?

Also Draymond doesn’t seem to be able to pronounce “ask”. He says AX instead.

I suppose. I've come across very few Stephens in California that pronounce it "Steven". They would just use "Steven". If you're Stephen, then is your nickname is "Steve"? Stephen seems closer to Stefan.

'Stephen' is typically pronounced as 'Steven'
'Stefan' is typically pronounced as 'Stefan'
Curry's name is written like the first but pronounced like the second for some reason.
Though, given the replies above, this must be a common mispronunciation in the US, which makes it a new pronunciation I guess.

Kerr spells his first name "Stephen." To be fair, spelling Steven with a '"ph" is kind of silly in my opinion, but Curry's the only person I know of who pronounces his name that way.

That's right - Stephen goes to Steve. That's the version I'm familiar with but it depends on my friends circle. I always found it weird he went with "Steph" which to my mind is what a girl named Stephanie would use. But always just assumed it was a regional / preference thing. Like a man named Richard going with "Rick". Or I guess the famed Richard Pound embracing "Dick Pound".

Yeah I think Steve Kerr and Steve Nash both shortened their names from “Stephen.”
Also there’s Stephen Jackson, and the author Stephen King.
However Stephon Marbury pronounced his name the same way, which is why a lot of people often mispronounced Steph Curry’s name as “Steph-ON” when he first came into the league.

Did nobody watch Family Matters? Steve Urkel and his alter ego Stefan?
Clearly Curry is a ladies man and thus must use Stefan. How hard is it to figure out

Lol your name is pronounced however your family intended it. It's not for forumers to debate as an academic topic

Scottish and Irish words have a BH in them that is pronounced like the letter V. Siobhan is a popular name pronounced Shavon.
I'd say more Stephens in America are intended to be pronounced with a V, but I know plenty who prefer "Stef-fen". Some trim that down to Steve.
No need to be upset over spellings having different pronunciations than what you expect. This language is a weird mish-mash of many.
