I see alot of comments on amongst nba fans and seen this exact argument on facebook. Half say Franchise player or star in the making and the Other say that he’s overrated

Franchise player ? Well at one point Demar Derozan was considered a franchise player. So.. I don’t doubt that Tatum at some point can be marketed as the marquee player for a team.
Now whether branding him as a franchise guy would actually be commensurate with his on court impact, I doubt that. Personally I think Tatum’s absolute peak would be somewhere around the Derozan level meaning he wouldn’t be able to elevate a team unless they are already deep with surrounding talent.

He is a very good player but no. He will get the max regardless

He's so young, literally every outcome is possible, and based on his past performances and the time he has left it would not surprise most if he overcame the difference between what he's done and what it takes to be a superstar.

He could maybe become one. I don't think he is there yet.

Derozan averaged 27/5/4 as the 1a or 1b on a 60 win team
i think he can legit be called that, even if not good enough to lead a team to real contention
i dont know that tatum will ever reach peak derozan

Like Beal, or Bosh he could be individually successful as the guy on a team but they probably wouldn't have much team success. He would be best as the 2 or 3 on a contender.

Depends on your definition of franchise player.
Guy who can be a #1 option and be the best player on a playoff team? Sure
Guy who can be the clear best player on the team and carry it to conference finals and titles, while contending for MVPs and All-NBA teams? Probably not

Depends
2018 NBA Playoffs Tatum looked like a franchise player in the making
2019 Regular Season Tatum looked like a player whose ceiling was a fringe all-star player when he averaged 16/6/5 on low efficiency (55%TS, 15.1PER)
I did a quarry of stats for 20 year old players for the last 30 years. The closet comparable to Jason Tatum i could find in terms of advanced stats (usg%, rebound rate, PER, BPM, WS) was Luol Deng. A great player but certainly not a franchise player.

That dude Tatum is a superstar who can do it all, shoot, drive, score, pass, and defend, all at an elite level. 2019 was outlier because of moody ass Kyrie. Celtics now got the best point guard in the NBA as Tatum's sidekick. It's championship or bust for the next 15 years.

Not even close doesn't mean he can't become one but 13 and 15 PPG guys are not the franchise

he can shoot but didnt shoot it well. i guess kyrie blocked too many of his shots or heckled him. he is a good passer but didnt pass well. i guess thats on kyrie. he is a good scorer, but didnt score well either in volume or efficiency. i guess kyrie forced him into too many long twos.
"celtics now have the best pg in the league" is sig worthy.
