NBA To Finally Have Accurate Heights

If someone wants to post the tweets from Marc Stein that would be great.

But anyways, this is great. I've wanted this for years. Heights have been slightly more accurate the last few years, but there's definitely guys out there who's heights are way wrong.

Official heights will be with player's shoes off btw.

As long as the mandated RealGM heights are with shoes on, I should be fine.

This was the biggest issue facing the NBA in our time.

Excellent work by Silver fixing something that is completely irrelevant to most people.

Still won't have accurate heights. Just inaccurate heights without shoes.

It's relevant to me as a Heat fan to find out if we really have a 6-10 small forward.

I've always been fascinated by the NBA not caring at all about listed player heights. There was that Chris Herring article where Durant said something like, "You know, I want to be 6'9" because that's the perfect height for a SF, but with the ladies I'm 7 feet."

I still don't know how they're going to make sure teams are actually reporting accurately, but it will be interesting to see any major changes. Also, I get how without shoes is supposed to be an even playing field, but... the players play in shoes. Kinda dumb.

That shoe will change. Its an unneeded variable.

just take off 1.5-2 inches a player and you have their 'real' heights

I always figured you add a 1.25 inches to a player with shoes on. That's what it's roughly been like for years when looking at combine heights.

Dental check-up. Seriously though, "certify" is being used super loosely here, teams will simply have to submit those things and the league will take their word for it.
I seriously doubt teams are going to ask their players to get measured every summer but at least some might do it.

If there's no enforcement or verification in place for this, then it's non-news. The teams/players can report whatever they want.

Does height factor in shoes/hair?

This doesn’t really matter other than curiosity. Players have always been listed as taller than are (however tall they are with shoes on). That’s all that matters anyway.

Weird that they didn't ask for real weight as it fluctuates more during a player's career than height.

So many big men about to lose/gain a ton of money because of their new listed height.

They're saying that's why they didn't:

I do think more players should have weight clauses in their contract like diaw did, though.

It's for sports betting...which I think a lot of people care about.
