So AD was once again asked to commit to the Lakers and refused to do so beyond this season. Saying "I just want to focus on this year" sticking to his previous comments he made in july (viewtopic.php?f=6&t=1874574) ""I don't know what's gonna happen, I have one year here" and his agents comments before the trade when he stated in a Sports Illustrated feature: "I can't say it no bigger we are going into free agency 2020. Anthony Davis will be in free agency"

So what can the Lakers do to convince him to stay? How bad do they have to be for him to leave?

Who cares. Kyrie said he was resigning and then left less than a year later. There's no reason for Davis to commit right now.

He has nothing to gain by committing now one way or the other.

Would be an epic boss move if he went back to N.O. though after they got all the Lakers assets

Smart move. Keep the front office on its toes and not be content with what they have.

I wouldn't read too much into this at the moment but....if he did leave, the Lakers would be very screwed. (obviously)

Smart decision by him. A lot can change between now and the off season, no reason to commit right now even if he does intend to stay.

Ironically in that worse case situation they could pitch a max deal and coming home to DeMar DeRozan.

Committing publicly would be stupid, even if he already has his mind made up to stay.

Players are smart and know that being a free agent is great for your brand . It benefits AD to have everyone talking about him all season saying “is he gonna stay?” and photoshopping him into Knicks jerseys etc , all of that speculation keeps his name in the news cycle

If he’s worried about the Lakers FO this gives him more power throughout the season.

No biggie. If the Lakers fail this season, AD can look at playing in a small market with a great young team. Trae Young, John Collins etc...will welcome AD with open arms to come be the best player on the team and start his own championship narrative vs riding LeBron's aging coattails.

AD to ATL in 2020, do not forget you heard it here first!

Its pure attention whoring. Basically the Wade farewell tour as "does he stay..." season tour

This is bad for the Lakers, as there is a REAL chance they aren’t good in the West.

Now, after trade, nothing’s on that roster than a fast aging LeBron, who so out of gas he’s already deferring to AD

THere is close to half a chance they ain’t in the playoffs

He knew where he was staying long term when he bought his mansion in Westlake a summer ago.

I am not sold 100% on that. AD has never even been to a Conference Finals. if the Lakers massively fail, I'd not be surprised one bit if he walks.
