the Doctor was so smooth, he captured the imagination of up and comers in the mid-70's, pretty much single handedly forcing the NBA hand to merge with the ABA. But I always thought that Skywalker was the most ethereal.

Carter definitely had some incredible dunks, but as far as the best in game dunker goes Dominic Wilkins is first and Carter second.

Was gonna go Dominique but then I remembered how terrifying Kemp was in his prime. Truly a force of nature.

Jordan for sure..... he has done the best in game dunks out of any of those options and it's not even close.
Lavine and Gordon had a good dunk comp, but neither has dunked like Jordan in game....yeah yeah, they've got a few. Jordan's highlight dunks go on and on and on.
Wilkins was too one dimensional, 2 foot take off, windmill, rinse and repeat....
Richardson was similar, couldn't jump off one foot.

Yeah. I think him being a modern day guy who never did the dunk contests makes people forget about him, but he is an amazing in-game dunker - so much power and goes right at defenders a lot. This a great video of his most vicious ones:

LeBron is great too. This is a fun video of the two of them back and forth. That LeBron Portland dunk is one of my favorite in-game dunks ever:

there are a lot of Chicago fanboys on this site that basically screw up any poll that involves the bulls. Same is true for Toronto.

This man deserves to be in consideration.

Facials. Hang time. Power. Style.

He gets hated on b/c of efficiency but there are few as fun to watch as this guy before the Achilles.

Tie with Kemp and Nique for me. Nique was even before my time, but everything Ive seen of his dunks was amazing. Kemp, was just a beast, and the combination of power and savagery of his dunks would be technicals today.

I liked when Kobe dunked, he was ferocious. He didn’t throw the ball in. He grabbed the rim. Pulled it down. He was out to demoralize. And be the alpha on the court.

And the dunks weren’t wide open. They were plays he made happen.

And he dunked on so pretty much everyone. Duncan, KG, Yao, Dwight, BigBen, TMac, The Admiral, CP3, Mourning, Bowen... ...

He challenged Smith and LeBron to chase him down. For me it’s got to be Kobe or MJ as 2nd best in game dunker.

Nominate: Zion

I'm pretty partial to Barkley's dunks too. He was vicious.

Why OP assumes that VC is best dunker ever?
Shaq, Lebron and especially Giannis are much MUCH better in-game dunkers.
Do we consider players that can dunk nicer than others in the empty gym a great dunkers? There is a lot of players not even in NBA that better dunkers than Lebron James by this logic.

I can't believe Dr. J has one of the lowest votes on the poll. The guy made dunking cool, and his dunks are just smooth and graceful as hell.

It's extremely subjective and hard to pick between all these guys.... Blake should definitely be on this list- especially with so many amazing in-game dunks. One other player I would nominate is Gerald Green.

How do you define best? Of the last 40 years, I will take D Howard because without fact checking, I'd guess he got the most in game dunks. If you want to talk style or ability alarm dunk contest...that's subjective as hell, but i will go with my as he combined lower and grace in a way nobody else to me came close to. After him 20 people are all about the same to me to the point i never really cared.

Lew Alcindor was so good at dunking that it was banned by the NCAA.
Any number of Globetrotters ought to go here -- Wild Thing Wilson comes to mind.
My vote goes to Dr J, because we're not talking about dunks if not for him.

The question should probably be, "Who's the 2nd best NBA dunker ever?"

Comparing to people who are/were strictly dunkers (e.g., Earl Manigault, The Air Up There, Mythkiller) and not NBA basketball players, I still think VC is #1, but wouldn't put any more NBA players in the Top-5 if the question includes non-NBA dunkers.
