Casey is the guy you want when you have a team transitioning from one era to the next or have players who have reputations for getting disgruntled. He can sorta ease the lockerroom and build a culture, but he can't take you to the promised land. He'll never be able to do it.

But give him a team with a bit of turmoil and he'll stabilize the franchise and carve out a nice workman-like identity.

I think Detroit needs that. But if the owner has expectations beyond what Casey can do, and they recognize it early enough, he's gone...or at least on the hot seat early.

I don't think he ends up gone, though. Just b/c Casey basically signed with Detroit through ownership, not management. He politics better than a lot of coaches and always gets in with ownership so he can save himself when his coaching incompetencies become apparent.

Give Casey the roster Nurse was handed and the breaks they received and the result is the same.

As a by-product of the game becoming so homogenized, the impact of coaching from an x's an o's perspective has become marginalized. It basically comes down to whether you have the roster construction built to thrive in this era, which in turn limits decisions (big vs small, offense vs defense, scheme).

Usually the first one to go is when a hasty Owner and/or GM unfairly has big expectations for their Team and blames the Coach when they quickly dont live up to them. In this case, I would say Brooks and Fizdale has the best odds to get fired first.
