Do You Like How Many 3's Are Shot In Today's NBA?
Not trying to make a statement or judge one way or the other. Even though we all know thats bs, and I probably will do both with enough conviction to make you ask why I even bothered writing that. Just curious (for now) how much of the forum enjoys the three point revolution of todays NBA and how much of it doesn't.
So does the proliferation of the 3-ball to its current extent satisfy you, frustrate you, or maybe even you think they don't shoot enough threes?
For reference, in the mid 2000s the 3Pa rate was 20%.
By 2012 it was 22%.
Last season it was 35% and is most likely trending upward.

I think the amount of three pointers is appropriate and entertaining

I don't like it at all. It's just run and gun with no defense. It's accidental basketball.

Morey Ball is disgusting to watch but so was the deep 2 chucking in the early 2000's. It depends on the talent

I was forced to vote for the 4th option. My answer would've been they shoot too many threes, but the game evolved this way and it'll evolve in some other way years from now. Therefore, even if I don't like it (I don't), I'm not crying at the sky. I just hope it naturally devolves back to Y2K levels of treys.

The real thing that makes the game is the whole offense operating together, so when the 3 comes off of great movement and passing its even better than a 2. Isolating while everyone stands around is what makes the game ugly to me. Actually, flopping and ref baiting are worse yet.

I don't really mind teams taking 30-35 3 point attempts. Especially if teams don't take super long threes with like 20 seconds left on the clock.

I'm a 3ist so no.

Last option. NBA’s fault, not coaches and players for using most efficient method.

Too many.
It looks bad aesthetically. Most games LOOK sloppy with a bunch of 3 point chucking.

Way too many three pointers. The great Greg Poppavich, once said that shooting 3s at a high rate isn't real basketball. I like the old school style where centers banged inside to get bucks and boards.

Need the 3 to be 25 feet all around and to widen the court. That would create a nice balance to the league. Unicorns like Derozan gain some value.

I like 3s when it comes from rotating the ball to the open man. I dislike them when it's an iso. I can tolerate the ones out of PnRs.
But, a 3 when the ball gets whipped around the floor to find the open man is very exciting. I love that. When a player decides that a 26 footer is a good look with 20 seconds left on the clock, I find that poor entertainment, even if it might be statically an ok shot.

"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I think there is too much iso ball not too many threes.

I don't like it, I don't think the analytic approach make for a very aesthetic game and takes away from tradition. Seeing dudes just jack up contested 3s early in the shot clock is ugly basketball, I wish the NBA wasn't reduced to that.

While threes are needed as some form of consistent ability as a team.. Threes become less important and less available in the playoffs against balanced teams..
This is a primary reason why Houston can't get to the finals, or they trade 2nd round/WCF exits basically each year. They've been able to legitimately compete with golden state more than once, but what has done them in is their lack offensive diversity and reliability as a team. Maybe that changes this year for Houston against a different, new set of competition at the top, and a different styled Houston team at the top. But, that remains to be seen, and with D'Antoni as coach, it'll be more of the same, and not differed enough on offense most likely. Plus Mike doesn't know how to develop and utilize a bench reliably.
But, when the three starts getting taken away, your legs are getting more and more tired because you don't balance the pace offensively (half court offense is like a passive/semi-rest period each time), either as a team, or your best two shooters go cold -- can you score off the bounce (NOT just going to the rim for a direct shot at the rim), draw multiple defenders, or get to the line reliably? If this isn't something you can do, you're most likely gonna be done. Going down the court on a semi-break or fast break, and ultimately shooting a three or going to the rim, over and over again more often than not will quickly tire you out, and make the game more predictable for the other team.. especially if you're not a solid, versatile defensive team.
I enjoy seeing a mid-range jumper taken when its taken off a driving pass, or in isolation against a set defender. And at the same time, its fun to see a break out and run down to the line for a big three, or a screen-set + off dribble 3P.
I like a more strategic and balanced game, with varied pace and different possession motions, different abilities getting showcased and executed on offense... run 'n gun fests are fun spread out, but too often and it gets predictable and boring. Or just from a semi-break standpoint as well.
Great example is Spurs vs. Pistons G5 2005 Finals, and Spurs vs. Sonics G6 2005 WCSF.

Not especially. Basketball now is basically living in the tail end of a video game where players have reached peak numerical optimization.
Not shooting 3s is not a viable strategy-- therefore the game is considerably flat. There are less ways to play because you're forced to shoot high volumes of 3 to win. The NBA should really be looking to design new measures to balance this out; preferably by modifying rules to make paint scoring more effective (like actually counting fouls made on big men).

They should eliminate the corner 3 on one side and let the 3 pt line naturally extend to the out of bounds line.

Pop's issue was a little different, and mainly based around how much variance is now just kind of an inescapable part of basketball. I think he once said that he can ballpark who won a game just based on the team names and 3 pt. %.

I agree, but that's kind of always been the same dumb basketball even in the old days. We just got a contested long 2 with 20 on the clock instead of a contested long 3 with 20 on the clock.
