Kareem Abdul Jabbar vs Willis Reed Duel 1970 Playoffs

Post#1 » by 70sFan » Mon Oct 14, 2019 5:53 pm

I created a short video that contains all Kareem and Reed clips from 1970 ECF I could find. Rookie Kareem absolutely dominated future champions with 34.2 ppg. Reed wasn't slouch either, he 27.8 ppg and led Knicks to the finals in 5 games.

Some footage I found were not available before and a few clips from game 2 have two sources.

Enjoy! :)

Awesome. Thanks! Kareem looked like a handful, but he wasn't exactly hustling back on defense all the time. Reed seemed to hold his own quite well.

Great video. Willis had a real impressive mid-range game. No hesitation whatsoever when taking those shots. Deceptively athletic, also.

As for Kareem, what can be said? I love how quick he goes into his post moves. Doesn't even give the defense time to double.

Both all-time greats. Thanks for posting this!

True, but Kareem had to carry huge offensive load. That's a lot to ask for a rookie, he should get a pass for some lazier defensive moments.

Reed was like Hakeem in a way that he had GOAT-level midrange game for a center, was extremely quick and could beat bigger, stronger defenders with variety of moves.

Agree with everything you said. Everybody knows how great Kareem was, but Willis was also damn good basketball player. So skilled and crafty.
