These preseason games are a small sample, but I believe LaVine is actually walking the walk with his defence.
Defence doesn't come naturally to LaVine, and I don't think it ever will, but there were some defensive possessions where he played team defence like I have never seen him play before. It was like he saw the whole thing differently. He was not watching the ball when his man didn't have it, but was playing the lanes, moving to help, recovering back to his man in a timely fashion...
He's been a passable man to man -defender, and I'm hoping he can elevate his team defence to a passable level too.
The thing is, LaVine is still developing, on both ends of the floor. He has the work ethic and the physical tools to become a superstar, but what I'm not sure about is whether he has the basketball intellect to become one.
He'll be fun to watch this season though, that I can pretty much guarantee.
From the basketball's perspective, travel is a nice pause from being pounded to the floor.
