This is the guy Danny Ainge didn't want to give up when Paul George, Anthony Davis, Jimmy Butler and Kawhi Leonard were demanding trades.

I bet he gets moved. Ainge's track record says he trades players that doesn't sign extensions.

3 of those 4 have been played for multiple teams in three years.

Ainge didn’t trade for them because he knew they wouldn’t stay. Smart decisions

Jimmy Butler bet on himself when the Bulls reportedly offered a 4 year $44-48 million extension before his break out season. He then got the max the following offseason which was double that.

Jaylen betting on himself now the same way. But he ain’t no Jimmy Butler.

Smart decision. If guys like Middleton and Tobias Harris are getting 180 mil contracts he can get one, too.

All those draft picks and assets and all you ended up with is Kemba Walker. But keep convincing yourself it's a "smart decision"

barnes just signed a 4yr/85m deal, Brown would be stupid to sign for a penny less.

Cant blame him. He can get way more money (Even though he's not worth it)...either from the celtics or someone else

They just started negotiating. You don't negotiate by giving away the farm at the start of negotiations. So of course he turned down the initial offer.

The team will probably come up a bit and if they can't come to an agreement he'll still be restricted next summer. As a fan I'd love to lock him down now but it's not really a huge issue at this point.

Can’t compare the dynamics surrounding a soon to be restricted free agent with the market for unrestricted free agents.

I mean to be fair all 4 of those guys are on different teams now. 2 guys demanded a trade and the other 2 left in free agency. I do think that is a big reason why he didnt trade him because of the fear of those guys not staying around. Plus he couldn't have used Brown to trade for AD anyways since they couldn't have AD and Kyrie on the roster at the same time last year.

Otto Porter got 100 million in Restricted Free Agency, 4 years ago. Jaylen Brown is a fool if he signs early, for less than that.

Brown has Ainge on a leash. He knows that Ainge knows that he messed up multiple times by not trading him for significantly better players so now Ainge is likely to pay him to try and save face.

He's also roughly the age Jimmy was when Jimmy went on to average 8 points per game.
