NBA Teams that pass the ball and play defense ? Competent Management ?

Kings fan here, my team might be a dumpster fire. Not saying I'm going to jump ship but who knows.

It'd be cool to start following a franchise that knows what they're doing, from the top down.

Competent management with clear goals and standards, team culture, and players who enjoy playing, working together, and competing.

Any up and coming franchises that fit the bill on this ?

I'd like to have the opportunity to watch.

The Jazz have fit this bill for a long time now... It's what has gotten them to where they are.

Jazz are a good mention.

With a pass-heavy coach in Brett Brown and a roster built around defense, my Sixers deserve a mention as well.

Also Raptors and Heat.

Heat have had extremely incompetent management post lebron. Like absolutely terrible.

Sixers. Very Spurs-ian offensive system installed by Brett Brown. Top 5 defense with several All-Defensive caliber players. Ownership has allowed the team to spend well into the luxury tax (once Simmons’ extension kicks in next year). Elton Brand has done a nice job taking over from the Colangelo fiasco and has assembled a pretty good team. Getting Horford and Richardson was a pretty good recovery from Butler choosing to go to Miami, and trading up for Thybulle looks like a good move as well.

This would likely by 3/4 of the league at this point. SOme teams have just not gotten the talent infusion via the draft or free agency to make it apparent.

Raptors fit that bill to a T, once they switched their style of ball to be pure ball movement a few years back, allowed them an offense that is better then their individual players, and they have had the most dynamic defensive players in the league top to bottom, and all this comes from Competent management who has managed assets well, drafted well, and had one of the best player development programs in the league (a big part in their G league team).

Looking for an up-and-coming team that plays this style, probably recommend the Suns, tbh.

Problem is the Suns have horrid management and frankly Pat Riley is in decline so I'd venture away from the Heat (as much as I love Bam). Sixers mostly got where they are because of high draft picks and tanking. Spurs are a great org and I don't think they're gonna flatline, but Pops won't be around forever and he's the main cog imo.

I think the Jazz and Raptors fit the description best, competency from ownership down to management, coaches, roster, etc. Raptors player development program and drafting has been insanely good. I'd keep an eye out for the Pelicans too. Cheering for Zion could be very exciting and Griffin did a nice job with the AD trade haul. I think with a different coach than Gentry and if ownership can learn to care about more than the Saints you should watch out for them.

Sixers have generational talents like Embiid and Simmons, a defense that is getting stronger by the game and savvy veterans in the mix like Al Horford as-well as exciting rookies like Thybulle. Also our path to success appears to be way easier than many of the teams mentioned with us being in the East.

Stable and aggressive front office

Always trying to get better and not afraid to make moves

At the forefront of the revolution of the league

Players have fun out there and you can tell they like each other

Defense is booty this year so far but they're fun to watch

Morey will fix it

James Jones actually did a good job after he took over. the main thing is he had so much trash to clean up after McD that it took a while to see results. plus I think now Sarver hopefully will learn not to **** interfere with the team.

Sixers have amazing defense, and pass heavy offense. Defense is great to watch, offense they have to pass because Simmons is not able to play pick and roll because the player guarding him can run under the screen. It meets your criteria, but really frustrating to watch. Also, incompetent management, because they have not told Simmons to shoot with his correct hand.

I know the title of the thread, but to be fair, at no point did he say that Houston passes the ball or plays defense. He even said "defense is booty." So you kind of set up a straw man there. Which I'm guessing you knew, seeing as you didn't quote his whole (pretty short) post. The main thing the OP was looking for was a competent franchise, "from the top down."
