Miami acquired Butler(bonafide star), Herro(future star) and Nunn(on path to become a star) using 2 decent but not great assets(JRich and 14#).

And they’re were way over the cap.

They look good. But they have played the equivalent of about a game and a quarter of an NFL season. Way to early to say anything definite.

They've been solid so far, and I'm impressed, I thought they wouldn't be this good this year. Hopefully it continues.

Armchair GMs gloss over the most important part of rebuilding: picking the right players.

You don't need cap, high picks etc. You need great scouts, a greater coach and a top GM. Heat have all 3

Bam and some of their other guys were already there last season and almost made the playoffs. Some of it is just natural progression by their players. Butler is obviously a gamer and Herro looks like a great pick. A few lottery teams have to be kicking themselves for passing on that kid.

Man I hope so. I’m really digging this team. I was a little weary Butler would come in and mess up the chemistry the team had through the first few games, but thank god I was wrong. Hopefully we’re still doing well enough by the middle of the season so we don’t have to take on CP3 and his **** contract

No chance they take CP3 now after how bad he has looked so far, right?

This is why teams like NYK can have 2 max slots & nothing comes of it. A good FO means more than anything.

Miami tried to bring back their great 2nd half team that was 31-10. Turns out they weren't anything better than mediocre. So they pivot. With no cap, back end lotto picks & facing the tax, they built their team into a probable home court team. With possible trades that can give them a higher ceiling.

Happy for them. Even if it's a 2nd round out. They're back to being a real player.

They’re looking good atm but prior to this off season they’ve been run very very poorly for a while.

Havent seen them play this season but I'd say it's far from a complete rebuild. Still dont see anything close to championship level talent on the team

They were a fringe playoff team.

Now they are the 3rd best team in the East along Boston IMO. If they do a Gasol-like trade to match Embiid/Giannis, i wouldnt be surprised if they beat one of the big boys.

I'll always hate Riley but the man knows what he's doing. He's always had a knack for identifying players that are going to work hard enough to overcome their physical limitations. Years ago, he found John Starks and Anthony Mason essentially on the scrap heap for New York. Two starters for those hard nosed, contending 90s Knicks squads.

Acquisition and tenure of Lebron with a team calls for the team to mortgage their future. Future picks and young prospects are dealt away to acquire LeBron and build a contending team. It was only natural for the Heat to struggle dealing with the vacancy once he left--add on Chris Bosh taking up ~$30M in cap while being medically unable to play for a couple years and it was a rather precarious situation.

The Heat's rebuild post-LeBron is better than most team's rebuild once an elite superstar leaves them with nothing in return.
