Not the biggest Porzingis fan, but he's playing a lot better than I thought he would after coming back. Missing so much time, new team and also on a team where he's the second option are things that require a big adjustment. And like others have said, he's never been that efficient to begin with.

I can't wait for Durant's first game back where people will be saying "wow he is washed, he shot 4/15!".

It takes a long time for a basketball player to get back into his groove. What's positive is he looks very good physically, and has had some great stretches.

I have no doubt he will be playing much better in 10 games time, not even have to wait for the end of the season

It's mediocre even for guards so imagine for a guy of his size.

It's been seven games and he already had a few big scoring outings. Defensively he's great at times already again, too.

If he looks like this overall come February then there might be reason to be concerned. But as of now he's doing about as had to be expected.

I would of given him a year to get back into it.

Hell, I think he's been great defensively, still a bit off with his shooting, but he's a 7'4" center, I wouldnt be sweating

It’s normal, it happened with Gordon Hayward. Heck Paul George looked like a shell of his former self as well when he came back right away but I would argue that he’s better than he was pre-injury. Give KP time

Yes give him time to fully recover/ get acclimated however, as others have said he was never uber efficient to begin with. He's a career 53% Ts guy which is subpar especially for a guy of his tools AND skill.

He takes too many mid-range shots / fadeaways that are inefficient for pretty much anyone. If he just cut down on those his FG% would improve. Right now I'd be more concerned about his FT% that's only 67.6 against career average of 79.9.

Still getting back into a rhythm and the team is still trying to figure out his spots on the floor. The minimum requirement from him this season is to space the floor and block some shots.

The biggest thing about Porzingis not being a plus player this year is that his defense hasn’t helped the Mavs either. When he got injured, he was as good of a rim protector as there was in the NBA.

Mavs’ DRtg WITH Porzingis on court: 110.8
Mavs’ DRtg WITHOUT Porzingis on court: 96.9

The Mavs’ defense has been so much better with Porzingis off court. The player whom the Mavs are next best defensively with the player off court is Powell and the DRtg is 105.2.

To make matters worse, the Mavs are multiple standard deviations better offensively with Kristaps off court as well.

Mavs’ ORtg WITH Porzingis on court: 105.0
Mavs’ ORtg WITHOUT Porzingis on court: 122.5

Mavs are nearly 32 points per 100 possessions better With Porzingis off court. Probably impossible for this to continue at this rate, but it’s been crazy. Mavs offense is all time great with Porzingis off court and Doncic on court.

His defense is vastly overrated for someone who is said a great rim protector. Most of the points which mavs give up are in the paint. He doesnt even guard the opposite team's best player.

This, he's a bad offensive player.
Dallas should try as hard as possible to find a second fiddle and make Porzingis their defensive anchor and third offensive option as Bosh in the LeBron Heat.

up to now the Mavs bench has been killing, I wouldn't trust on/off too much, yet

He has a career TS of 53%. He's an average 3-point shooter, and that might be the best thing about his offensive game to this point in his career.

Porzingis has been an excellent rim protector and is a big reason why Dallas is 5-2.

Those stats only mean that the Mavs' second unit is much better than most other teams' second units. Dallas has some of the best depth in the league.

He looks very close to form already. From DEC-FEB in the 2017-18 season he averaged 20.6PPG on 41.9%FG(51%TS) over the last 29 games before his injury. So much of his game is perimeter based and he’s generally streaky offensively.

He never looks comfortable playing close to the basket, or posting up consistently. Until he can do those things regularly his efficiency will likely always be below average.

No,it isnt

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features/a-better-way-to-evaluate-nba-defense/

About the other stats posted: 7 games as sample size are a joke anyway and the Mavs bench is absolutly killing it so far. Top-3 in points scored etc
