How Good Would Scottie Pippen be in 2019?

How good would he be? Which player does he compare to most? Maybe a better passing Jimmy Butler?

Less scoring, more playmaking version of Siakam?

He could be just as good or better than Leonard.

I'm gonna go on a limb and say he'd be as good as he was in 1994. Of course he'd be good, cmon. He could lead a team in almost all cats then and now.

Not nearly as strong nor the shooter. Night and day better passer. Far better help defender. Might actually be better at the rim. lack of strength might hurt him a bit on ball as a defender.

Really two very different players.

putting 90s athletes in todays nba ecosystem is just unfair. Those guys had like one athletic therapist, now teams have like 5 doctors, miltimillion dollar training facilities and as many coahches for each facet of the game as an nfl team. Yeah scotty would be good.

24/8/7 48% FG 35% 3pt + All World D

92-96 Pippen would be top 7-10. A tier 2 superstar for sure after LeBron/Giannis/Harden/KD/Curry/Kawhi.

The game today is ideal for his talents. He was a freak athlete with a good handle and excellent playmaking skills. Inconsistent shooter, but developed into a handy post-up player by the mid-90's. Basically a lesser version of LeBron overall.

Goat level athleticism, he would take a lot more threes so I say his points would go up to at least 27. Wings rebound more in this era so his rebounds go up.

We are looking at 27 points 10 rebounds 8 assists 3 steals 1 block a game.

He would be a Giannis level impact player but more of a 3 point shooter/playmaker instead of a dunker.

Remember Pippen was arguably bulls most impactful player in that 2nd 3peat, he's a bad bad man.

If he was born in the 90s and playing in 2019, he'd have trained far differently for strength and for shooting. The training in the 70s and 80s was not nearly what it is today.

They had the same stuff in the 90s. It wasnt the 60s.

Yeah, I wish they would stop with the comparisons. Some of these players wouldn't have been the type of players they are WITHOUT Scottie. And yes, he would still be a top player. His heart and drive would have kept him a force thru his prime.

Simply not true. For example, diets and nutrition were all self aware for most, and the information for health would need to be sought out.

But the point is, look at an ACL/MCL that would have ended most careers if not two three years recovery time. Now it's only one year or less. Foot surgeries and surgeries in general took more time. We have a better understanding how to fix a player and extend their careers. Bet Grant hill would have loved playing in 2019 in his prime.

An even better defensively, although slightly less dominant offensively, Kawhi. Kawhi was compared to him a lot early in his career for a reason, Pippen was an elite defender, although he didn't have as good of a handle and a jumpshot as Kawhi does.

It's fair. The stuff you are listing would be available to Scottie now. Most players aren't getting that stuff until college or later and some don't even take real advantage of it.

Peak Pippen is probably in the middle between peak LeBron and peak Iguadala

A lazy comparison that made sense in the early part of Kawhi's career when he seemed like he might evolve into a Pippen type player. Kawhi's scoring, especially his Jordan-esque pull-up game is exactly what Pippen didn't have. Pippen was a much more eager passer. Their demanors are also opposite. Kawhi is zen/calm/focused, Pippen was a hyper/high-motor chaos creator. They both have crazy long arms and have great wing size, but the comparisons stop there

AdagioPace wrote:Less scoring, more playmaking version of Siakam?

Last year I started thinking about how Pippen like Siakam was. Siakam is a little bit more aggressive as a scorer this year than Scottie ever was, but I think that has a lot to do with the difference in shooting/spacing of eras. Scottie was a more skilled passer and more natural ball handler but Siakam seems just as effective. They are both at their core super high motor, disruptive players who like to push the ball. They both have great versatility. Siakam post Kawhi feels so much like Pippen post Jordan (first retirment). Siakam isn't playing that Pippen level intense defense though right now. Siakam obviously tilts more heavily towards the frontcourt positions but both of them do a lot of the same things on the court.

Scottie was 6'8 with a reported 7'4 wingspan. Today he'd be a big elite wing on all-nba teams. He'd be battling with Lebron, Kawhi, George and Durant. He'd be a better pass than all of them except Lebron. He'd be the best defender and worst scorer of the bunch. He really is skinny Lebron in that he's a transition monster who likes to pass but is also a monster athlete.

Anyone who doesn't think Scottie would be an elite player in any era, I'm sorry to hear about your low knowledge of the game.
