How is SAC/Luke Walton doing so well?

I'm not gonna lie, im utterly shocked that SAC isnt like 2-16 right now. Luke Walton during his stint with the Lakers was an absolutely horrendous coach with no gameplan, made no adjustments, or ability to develop young players. When SAC sniped Luke after he got **** by the Lakers, i was LMFAO at SAC for picking up who i thought was a bottom 3 coach.
Yet lo and behold SAC is holding its own this season, winning games, and playing good teams tough.
What happened? How is SAC pulling off their solid season, last i heard about SAC, Fox has kinda come down to earth a bit from his excellent season last year, then he got hurt. Yet instead of freefalling, SAC is just manning up, and playing hard, instead of lying down and dying like dogs for another high lotto pick.
I mean, i figured SAC has a good amount of young talent, but with who i thought was a clueless coach in Luke, i figred they wouldnt amount to much. SAC has definitely proven me wrong and for that i gotta eat crow.
Can SAC fans tell me whats going on? Has Luke somehow morphed into an average coach while no one was looking? Is SAC's young talent, other than Fox, way better than we all thought?

Give Luke Walton shooters, he wins you games
Give Luke Walton only "playmakers", get nothing
Lakers were something like 17-3 in games where they shot league average or better from 3pt. Trouble was 3/4 of the time they didn't.
Lakers were also 4th seed before LeBron went down. Turns out of you take LeBron away from a young team, the team sucks.

How is Luke Walton a bottom 3 coach? People seem to ignore roster constriction's impact on the game

I think leaving the Lakers was the best thing for him. He doesn't have the pressure to succeed from the Sac front office like he did with LA, and a lot of people were wondering if LeBron would even listen to Walton. That's too much distraction for a coach.

Is he doing any better than Joerger?

Young team takes time to gel.
Also lost their best player in Fox, Hield was in a horrific clump, Bjelica wasnt firing, Once they figured out a way to play without Fox, Guys like Barnes/Bjelica started playing well and Hield found form they've been playing quite well. Settled on a consistenty line up helps massively as well
Also water is wet

Editor’s note that they’re doing this without Fox and Bagley for a huge chunk of games.

lakers were an insane dumpster fire last year with everything going on and lebron injured.
so this situation was always going to be better for him.

He has an incredible staff around him this time, and he isn't afraid to make necessary adjustments. The defense is a huge credit to him, and slowing the offense down without Fox has been such a great move. Igor is helping us build an actual system in the halfcourt, and we're discovering talent we wouldn't have, had we stayed healthy.

One difference from his time in LA, he has an improved coaching staff this time around.
But he was slowy progressing with the Lakers if you look at his record from season to season. Had he not had LeBron thrown into his lap and Lakers kept their rebuilding movement versus star hunting, he'd probably still be employed and considered successful.
Getting out of LA was great for him and Lakers getting Vogel was great for them.

Absolutely. overall, yes.
His personality is great for our squad, and we've never defended like this

I find it hard to judge Walton for last year so much given the dumpster fire atmosphere that likely permeated throughout the organization. I also think they were playing pretty well before LeBron went down.

Give it time. We were saying similar things in LA in the beginning. In my opinion he's a good floor raiser and defensive coach.

I love low usage PGs like Cory Joseph. The people who judge him by his stats will never understand.

He has an incredible staff? Well holy **** that's prolly the biggest reason. During his lakers stint he brought in the most under qualified folks possible who only got the job cuz they knew Luke personally. It was basically a frat buddy clubhouse of dumbasses who couldnt help.
Well its a damn good thing SAC didnt let him have his pick of assistants then.

He is very good coach. Last year was just another case of blame coach instead of looking into the root of the problem.

Guy thinks Luke Wilson was a terrible coach, doesn't admit he's wrong, or that coaches don't makes huge impact, asks if Walton is all of a sudden a different person/coach, admits Scaramento isn't bad a gives all the credit to the rest of Sacramento. Ignores his original assessment of Walton or the Lakers.
Only on realgm.

I think regardless of your opinions on Walton's system or strategy, his players clearly want to play for him, which is half the battle.
Maybe I'm in the minority, but I've always expected Luke to have a long and successful coaching career.
