Is Nick Collison a greater OKC legend than Kevin Durant?

Post#1 » by Drygon » Sat Jan 11, 2020 8:04 pm

To the mods: I'm 100% serious with this thread with no intention of trolling or anything. It's a genuine question from my side.

Without further ado, let's jump into the topic:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Obviously, Kevin Durant is ahead of Westbrook & Collison as the best OKC player. But that's not what I'm talking about.

Being the greatest player for [insert franchise] is something completely different thing.

People says KD isn't OKC's greatest player ever because he didn't stay long enough and is extremley hated by OKC fans.

It doesn't really matter than OKC went to 4 Western Conference Finals + NBA Finals 2012 with KD as their clear-cut #1 option. Westbrook never won a single playoff-series as 'The Man' for OKC between 2016-2019 even when he had an MVP-caliber player in Paul George.

And yet, people still rate Westbrook ahead of KD as the greatest player in OKC's history due to his longevity (played 10 seasons for only 1 franchise), getting unconditional love by OKC fans and will get his jersey retired as soon as the career is over.

Having that said, do you think Nick Collison is ahead of KD among OKC's greatest player ever?

Like I said before, Nick Collison (or any other OKC player) was nowhere near close to KD in term of talent. But Nick Collison spent 10 seasons for the franchise, getting unconditional love by their fans & became the first OKC player to have his jersey retired.

You know, if you really want to know how a former player is viewed by OKC fans, we have our own forum.

In what way was he great, other then being liked by fans and hanging around?
Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

i think legend is the wrong word
it's more like a legacy - the thing his presence left behind. it's a personal thing between him and okc fans. like a rudy larusso or a kurt rambis

To me this argument seems comparable to the argument that Derrick Fisher (or any other roleplayer with a lot of championships) is a better player than Lebron James(or any other great player with 'only' a few championships) because he has more rings.

I'm not sold on this argumentation.

Kevin Durant blew a 3-1 lead in the WCF then joined the team that beat him that had a 73-9 record. He "won" 2 rings*. Like Kendrick Perkins said, everyone knows those rings don't count. He can't sleep at night knowing he is a championship because he rode a 73-9 win team to those rings. Like Stephen A. Smith said, it was the weakest move in NBA history. KD knows hes trash and OKC knows KD sold out.

I think the only purpose of this thread is to bait and spot kd’s realgm account by triggering him.

Collision will eventually be in the front office or coaching at some point. He is the eqiv of Udonis Haslem who will also be doing the same thing. Looks good for team PR.

Jordan is a bigger legend but Cartwright ended up coaching in Chicago. Same type of thing.
