Lebron James' Historical Responsibility

Post#1 » by baldur » Tue Jan 28, 2020 6:14 pm

This season will be determined on Lebron James' shoulders.

Now that Los Angeles Lakers phenomenon Kobe is gone, It is Lebron's duty to bring the championship to the city of Los Angeles in order to honour Kobe Bryant's legacy.

Can Lebron James succeed this and write the history again?

If Lebron was like 5 years younger, I'd say it's a no brainer. At 35 even if he has the will, not sure he has the stamina barring some roster upgrades. Clips for sure should be favored, debatable but you could argue some of the top East teams as well.

he doesn't have any responsibility to win a title for kobe, it would however be a nice story though

It would be a much better legacy for Kobe if the Lakers' last title was with Kobe. Not if the guy who replaced him wins one without him. We should all root for no more Laker titles. I know I will.

Well he came to Los Angeles to win one as a Laker anyway, so... yeah, winning was always the idea with Kobe dead or alive.

Let Lebron be Lebron. No need to put further pressure on him. Is he going to be some sort of failure if he doesnt win it all? Is this something that Laker fans will hold against him? Come on now.

It is in no way his responsibility to be Kobe. Or even like Kobe.

Seems to me he put it on himself.

Let's not do this. I'm sure Lebron will have extra emotional motivation, but we can all grieve for Kobe and his family while at the same time not turn this into a rallying cry for people to jump on the Lakers bandwagon or as a measuring stick achievement for Lebron's legacy (which is largely already written outside of LA). If we've learned anything over the past 48 hours, it's that the world lost a great icon, not just basketball, not just the city of LA, and not just the Lakers. The World lost one.

It would be a great way to end the season, but no this isn't some historic responsibility for him. We gotta take a step back with some of this stuff. You get by saying its a historic responsibility for him to win it, that it would be a historic letdown if he didnt.

So if Lakers win the title, do the "NBA is rigged" conspiracy theorists come out in full force?!

You might want to rephrase that, cause the Lakers don't need to win the title for it to end up in the city of Los Angeles.

It's really disgusting to see the inability of some people to keep things in perspective. A father and his 13 year old daughter just died horrifically, the former of whom literally millions around the globe looked up to, including a lot of people who probably didn't have father figures of their own growing up and latched onto him for inspiration and hope. Stop making this about basketball. It's a game. Acting as if LA winning this season would patch up the wounds his grieving friends, family, and everyone else who supported him (along with the other victims) are experiencing really does a disservice to those who died.
