What are examples of coaches ruining a team through bad behaviors or awful coaching decisions?

Mark Jackson when he was coaching the Warriors basically tried to turn the players against each other and the Front office:

https://grantland.com/the-triangle/mark-jackson-fired-golden-state-warriors/

"When Ezeli was injured last season, Jackson and his staff told the healthy players that Ezeli was cheering against them — so that he would look good, according to several team sources. Players confronted Ezeli in a meeting, and he wept at the accusation — which he denied".

"As I wrote last week, Jackson demoted Brian Scalabrine, an assistant coach, to the D-League after initially firing him without cause in front of players. The team fired another assistant, Darren Erman, after learning he had been secretly recording conversations Jackson had with other coaches. Erman was concerned Jackson was bad-mouthing him behind his back, multiple sources have said, and poisoning his relationship with players. The team changed the location of Erman’s parking spot without warning, sources say. Jackson also made it known he preferred that Jerry West, a senior adviser to the Warriors, stay away from practices.

The Warriors have looked into allegations that another assistant coach beyond Erman had also been recording internal conversations, per multiple sources. The environment had just grown dysfunctional; Jackson’s “don’t mention a particular assistant” quip, a reference to Mike Malone, now the Kings’ coach, turned out to be a harbinger".

Owner Joe Lacob said:

"Part of it was that he couldn't get along with anybody else in the organization. And look, he did a great job, and I'll always compliment him in many respects, but you can't have 200 people in the organization not like you".

Yup, and for how much Jackson poisoned the locker room, it's amazing how quickly Steve Kerr healed it and changed the Warriors culture into one that is among the best in the league. In terms of teams I'm a fan of, I've never seen a worse coaching job than Jackson -- the locker room stuff was bad, but his offensive system was also stale and iso-heavy.

There has never been a transition that quick that I've seen from a bad coach to a top coach. Kerr may not be amazing at in-game coaching, but he creates a great team culture & overall team system/philosophy.

Oh, and F Mark Jackson, still is so annoying that they call that hack in to coach so many Warriors playoff games. Sooo tired of a biased hack announcing so many games.

Yeah Jackson was toxic to his staff but motivational to his players. A weird mix.

He probably could have at least taken the Warriors to the WCF if GSW kept him. Only reason Warriors lost in the first round in 2014 is because Andrew Bogut injured his rib right before the Playoffs (Aldridge rammed into him and they called a foul on Bogut lol) and the Warriors had to play against the Griffin/Jordan frontline without him; then Jermaine O'Neal hyperextended his knee in Game 6 because Big Baby dove into him during a loose ball. Game 7 was played without their top 2 centers.

With that said, it was a blessing in disguise to lose in the first round because it gave the FO a reason to let go of Jackson. Kerr came in and implemented a more team-oriented offense and the rest is history.

George Karl

Blew so many chances in Seattle. Not putting GP on Jordan to start the Finals.

Trading Ray Allen in his prime for Payton.

Wasn’t the bucks defence the worst in the league with Kidd or something? And look at them now. What a difference.

Kidd sucked at coaching.

Boylen giving the teams best young player Markennan no touches, limiting his minutes and leaving him in the corner on offensive.

It feels like he just hates him because everything he has been doing this season has been trying to limit his impact and worsen his development.

Maybe now they'll talk about this on ESPN and Stephen A can finally shut up about how unfair it is that a team hasn't hired Mark Jackson, while subtly implying that it's due to his race.

Interesting take considering that he took both of those squads further than they had ever gone. Minnesota went from lottery team to playoff team, back to lottery team in the blink of an eye with essentially the same core.

Never said he didn't make them good. Doesn't mean he didn't also ruin them.

Nah. Can't speak for Minnesota but here with the Bulls he didn't. It's pretty well documented that the old F.O. undermines their coaches. Everybody knew well in advance of Thibs last season that Gar wanted him out and Hoiberg in. Much like Krause did with Jackson/Floyd.

Scott Brooks stubbornly keeping Kendrick Perkins in the starting lineup when the Heat went small ball in the Finals. Or just generally, just not making the right adjustments, despite having weapons at his disposal.

And Karl in Denver.

Nuggets lost to the Lakers in the WCF, partially because he had no inbound plays and also because of his man crush on Anthony Carter. Just overplayed him and made him a starter at one point.

Too much negativity in the world ill go opposite.
I liked what dwayne casey did for blakes confidence in shooting all those 3 pointers and handling the ball
I like how kerr handled boogie before the injury.
Avery Johnson toughening up dirk with his squeaky ass voice.
Frank vogel has had a night and day impact on the culture of the lakers from the Laissez-faire luke walton team.

He's not coaching nba anymore but i loved how tough JVG was yet how much the players still liked him. Its like if boylen had some kind of a soul

Many fans feel sorry for Mark Jackson. I was never one of those fans but realizing what he loss on his own must stay with Mark Jackson still. He tried to make the men boys and created such a bad locker room culture. An NBA Coach won't get away with trying to have rules like no cursing and bringing their own religion on his/her players.

I do agree, Steve Kerry did a hell of a job fixing the problems Mark Jackson created, and Kerr has brought the best out of his players.

Not listening to his own players was a flaw George Karl had. It was always what he said or nothing and it hurt his chance at having success too. I remember watching him Coaching and you just knew the guy was his own enemy.
