If You Could Pick One- Zion Or Luka?

You could build around one, TODAY.

I potentially see a lot of people voting Luka, but is Zion the guy?

I am curious as to what my fellow basketball minds think. Obviously, Luka Dončić has the step-back, and a jumper in general. But Zion is so strong and such a mismatch.

Whats the word fellas?

edit_____

Let's assume for this argument that I turned off injuries, just like in NBA 2k. Does anyone see this as a difference maker?

Luka by a healthy margin.

This exact question has been asked before and the overwhelming answer was Luka.

Luka by health and longevity.

Come to think of it, If both were guaranteed to play the same number of games I would still probably take Luka. I think he's more of a leader.

This is Luka and it's not particularly close.

Easily Luka - I don't trust Zion's body, and think his game is one dimensional. I think Luka vs Ja Morant is a better question. At this stage, I'd go Luka, but 12 months from now I think Ja may be edging ahead due to his two way game.

If you're going to turn off injury potential, your might as well say what if Luka had Russell Westbrook speed and bounce. I don't see the reason say "well what if a player didn't have this risk or weakness to him.. then what?"

Zion's game puts him at higher risk for injury just the way Derrick Rose's game made him more prone to injury. Except Zion weighs another person more than Rose did. You gotta hope all players stay healthy for their careers but also be realistic about what risks of certain players are.

Nonetheless, history tells us that wings are the ideal player to build around and Luka is showing top 10 all time trajectory. Elite playmaker, 30ppg capable scorer, good enough defender, and strong rebounder. He's also plays a style of game that is very grounded, can adapt to different style and teammates, and super high IQ.

Zion of course, he is extremely marketable. I bet fans will buy tickets to see him warm up before a game.

Luka and its not even close for me. Luka will directly elevate the play of his entire team whereas Zion will elevate their games indirectly. Meaning, luka can be an elite scorer and a playmaker.

Luka has a unique skill set that is not predicated on freak athleticism like Zion’s. I would go Luka for the long term.

Luka is a top scorer and play maker which makes his team mates better players, he is also a top rebounder for a foward, shoting guard, guard and even a modern power forward. He is also an average defender who can be very good one in the future.

Zion can be a top scorer, rebounder and defender but his game wont last as much as Lukas, his scoring is not as versatil and he is far from Lukas play making level.

Not counting injuries I would chose Luka but its close and I think both will be the top 2-3 players for the next 10 years

Luka because he doesn't come with the injury risk. If one of them wasn't fat and injury-prone, it would be a tougher decision to make (I think Zion is a generational talent).

Luka is about to be named All-NBA First Team at 21, while Zion wont even be ROY due to injuries. Zion's is just one year younger, yet his health of great concern. There probably aren't 10 players you'd take over Zion right now due to his potential, but Luka is definitely one of them.

People saying "it's not close" make me laugh. Zion looks like a generational talent in his own right.

That said, I still pick Luka because his flair for the game kinda reminds me of Bird (even if they played different positions). He's guaranteed to do something magical every night. But choosing between him and Zion wasn't easy.
