Its possible that he is in good shape but is pushing his body extremely hard to do what he's doing...he is a very high usage player. Not everyone is Lebron.

Seems like he has been working on his body a lot and he seems quicker and more shifty. Hopefully the rest will come with off seasons to refine his game and more experience to know when to conserve energy.

That and he seems out of shape. He needs to work on his conditioning- he seemed out of shape even before shutdown

Luka has stamina issues it seems. By the middle of the fourth quarter, he was dead tired. He didn't even want dribble up the ball during overtime.

The radio broadcast said Luka looked tired in OT. But let's not act like Houston dosen't have a monster team

Because they are soft and don't have reliable post presence.
No Kyrie and Love injuries - no ring for Draymond, no Durant - no rings for Draymond.

This should be chiseled on the basketball Mount Rushmore.

They aren't a good defensive team. Teams can come back easily when you cant get stops

In February or March, I read some Luka's numbers in the closing minutes of the games - he's woeful. For example - https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/ffnkui/luka_doncic_is_0for9_on_shots_to_tie_or_take_the/
Luka Doncic is 0-for-9 on shots to tie or take the lead in the final minute of the 4th quarter or OT this season

https://www.basketball-reference.com/play-index/shot_finder.cgi?request=1&match=play&year_id=2020&game_num_min=0&game_num_max=99&is_playoffs=N&q4=Y&q5=Y&time_remain_minutes=1&time_remain_seconds=0&time_remain_comp=le&is_tying=Y&is_go_ahead=Y&player_id=doncilu01&order_by=date_game

And now I see that the list actually makes it 0-10 and Dallas lost all those 10 games.

He's an epitome of anti-clutch this year.

Luka might have to work on his stamina, but more important on how to manage his energy. I don't think he will ever be able to be stay effective end of games with that kind of usage in so many minutes.
It's also on Dallas to buils up a team that won't ask him to do so.

They rely too much on Doncic. The players need to step it up and try to play by themselves if he is tired.
And the coach plays him way too much when others are getting load management and coast through playoffs. Why is Kawhi allowed to play 20 when Doncic is playing 40 a game?

Doncic is gassed by the 4th quarter.

What you saw tonight in the Houston/Dallas game and the Portland / Memphis game was the difference between being led by seasoned vets vs. young players.. Westbrook, Harden, Dame, CJ... They all took their lumps when they were younger too... Luka & Ja will be just fine.

I think a lot of it is this. Which is odd because last year as a rookie he was fabulous in those moments. But he's not been good at the end of games. And with Barea out of the rotation and Brunson hurt they really don't have anyone else who can consistently create offense. Delon Wright isn't that guy. THJ isn't that guy. Curry isn't that guy.

Rick is too smart and the Mavs have too much offensive talent so this almost has to be a sample size issue but we were spoiled with Dirk being such a consistent clutch time guy that it's certainly painful to watch so many winnable games get away but they are going to be a one and done in the playoffs if they don't fix this.

Rick over achieved with that roster. Even if it has Luka and Poz. How can we credit Miami's coaching for overachieving yet discredit Dallas.

Haven't been following them throughout the season but I saw last night and it looked like Luka was over-dribbling late in the game

Mavs basically took their foot off the pedal in the last 3-4 minutes of the fourth quarter. They thought they had the game won.

Luka is out of rhythm. He went 40/11/55 with 8 turnovers.

Dallas is a rebuilding team. They are still building the roster around Luka/KP. They have great role players in Kleber, Tim, Seth, Delon and Dorian. But lacks experience, defense, playmaking and inside presence.

Furthermore they are playing without Brunson, Marea, Lee, MKG and WCS that could help a little.

Not sure why people blame defense, when Mavs have the best offense and are :

"29th in efficiency in the last five minutes of a game, with the margin at five points or closer—according to NBA Advanced Stats."

29th! They are always bad defensively, but they're also becoming atrocious offensively in clutch situations.

Crazy stats, since they have the best offensive rating in the NBA this years!

I believe that his problems can be corrected ... Maybe not for this season, but for the future yes, especially their 2 best players will be in the playoffs for the first time of their NBA career

Their problem is that their role players are overrated, very overrated, which leads to teams only need to contain Luka and Poz in close games.

Poz is also not a second option. He's more suitable in the 3rd option role.

They desperately need a 3rd guy at the guard/wing position to play off Luka when he sees the double team. It would open things up so well for Luka and Poz.

Now, this has been a repeating occurrence during the season for the Mavs. They have lost numerous game due to blowing leads in the 4th quarter when they were in control of the game.

The most famous example this season has to be when the Mavs led by 30 points with 2:52 remaining in the 3rd Quarter against the Raptors and lost the game.

Why does this keep happening over and over to the Mavs?

Is Carlisle unable to figure out what is happening, are the Mavs incapable of preventing it from happening, or do they not listen to what Carlisle is telling them when they have a lead?

Because they play absolutely no defense.
