Who should win and why? Did the league get its list of nominees wrong?

Gobert I can generally get behind, best argument against is that he can sometimes be played off court. Davis doesn't have an argument outside of a shallow boxscore stats Marcus Camby thing. Giannis allows the Bucks to keep Lopez's dinosaur ass in the game and also dominates as a 'small ball' C so bias aside I still think he has the best case.

It'll be a total joke if Giannis doesn't get it. Dude anchored a GOAT level defense in a league that has gone out its way to completely marginalize/hamstring what defenses can do. It's incredible.

Giannis is the reason the Bucks are one of the top defensive teams in the league...without him they'd turn into a middle of the road defensive team, that's how much of an impact he has on the defensive end.

Take Kawhi away from the Raptors and they're still one of the top defensive teams in the league.

according to Statmuse, "The Milwaukee Bucks have a defensive rating of 108.5 without Giannis Antetokounmpo this season."
https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask?q=bucks+defensive+rating+without+giannis+2019-20

that would put them in 9th in defensive rating...which I wouldn't consider elite....unless you think the Chicago Bulls are an elite defensive team.

Gobert really fell off throughout the year. At the start of the year I thought it was really close between him and Giannis. Now I'd rather see Brook Lopez get a mention than him. Not that it really matters as Giannis should win in a landslide. Bucks are the best defense in the league by a good margin, while Giannis is ranked first in DRTG, DWS and DBPM. Just about any stat that measures defense says Giannis is the best.

Why not call this award defensive big man of the year?
None of these guys is in the top 5 in blocked shots or steals
At lease Gobert is #1 in DRPM, should go to him is this is the field.

I wouldn’t vote for him as the DPOY but saying it’s absurd that Davis even gets a mention is stupid. He’s the biggest reason behind a top 3 defense in the league. Of course he can be in that convo.

Just to clarify, this isn't the list of nominees but rather the list of finalists. The voting has already been done, all players were eligible to be voted for, and these are simply the top 3 vote getters.

I can’t vouch for Kris Dunn so I’d give it to Crazy Pat Bev. With the way the NBA is legislated now you can’t make a case for a player playing harder than a starting PG with a +3 real defense box that shows on tape. Nope.

How about some love for Bam? In some situations he can be equal to or better than Giannis and Gobert.

The Lopez twins are also both top 5 in rim defense. Their schemes don't work without those two as well.

Beverley or Smart. Those guys guard the other team's best perimeter player.
