Is Anthony Davis the best player in basketball?

Through the playoffs so far, Anthony Davis:

29.8 ppg, 9.4 rpg, 4.2 apg, 1.6 bpg, 1.4 spg, 57.3 FG%, 38.9 3-pt%, 37.3 PER (!)

His PER is by far and away the highest in the league so far. Looks like this guy has been underrated all season long with many not considering him a top 5 player.

Is Donovan Mitchell the 2nd best player in the league?

Afterall he does have the 2nd highest PER!

Jamal Murray is 4th best and Serge Ibaka rounding out the top 7!

If he can help old man LeBron get past Kawhi and the Clippers I'll consider him top 5. For now he's top 10 in my opinion.

He's been wanting to play all his minutes at the 4 for the season. His on/off and impact has been poor by his standards during the season because of it.

For people playing along, it was known he was saving his body to play a lot more of the 5 in the playoffs. The man has been unleashed, though these stats are vs the blazers only, he loves beating up the blazers.

Top two player on the Lakers.

He’s great though and like other dude said he’ll be next level playing at the 5. Definitely the Lakers best player in the first round. He’s always dominates the playoffs though. No one should be surprised

Anthony Davis isn't meaningfully different this year than he has been in previous years. He's always been an excellent player.

But we know he really cannot carry a successful team. Those Pelican teams he had weren't exactly terrible from a talent standpoint but they never made much noise. If Anthony Davis is - by far - your best player how far can you realistically go? And I think that makes him different to Giannis or Kawhi or even LeBron.

It is nice to see him getting a little more respect now he is in a higher profile market and on a winning team.

Maybe, he's not on a team that built an entire offensive system around him, ala Harden/Jokic, so the numbers are fuzzy, but he's helped lead the best team in the regular season.

I personally think he's better than MVP Giannis and his teammate, but is he better than playoff Kawhi or Harden, probably not.

No. He wouldn't be doing jack without LBJ next to him. Also PER is kind of meaningless in a 5 game sample size against the 8th seed. Let's see what his PER is in middle of the WCF (assuming the Lakers get there)
