Jayson Tatum is not ready
Lackadaisical defense and rebounding. He's not ready to take that next step and lead his team.
5 rebounds and -11 plusminus. Too cool for school body language.
What do you guys think, already 2 ECFs, will he ever make that next step.

His "superstar" entitlement mentality is a bit annoying

Re: Jayson Tatum is not ready
Saying he’s not ready is one thing, but using his rebounding as an example is pretty weird. Went into tonight at 10.4 a game in the playoffs, by far the teams leading rebounder.

He literally had 30-14-5 the last game...
This Heat team is good, give credit where credit is due. Also, ever since Hayward went down, the C’s starters have been playing heavy minutes and they played 7 tough games against the Raptors while Heat had all the time to rest up and practice/improve.

I mention it because in crunch time with less than 2 minutes left in the game, he doesn't box out Bam and he gets an easy offensive rebound and layup.

Re: Jayson Tatum is not ready
Yes not ready but he just broke out haha?
He has some things he has to work on but it's all things he can work on and not horrific holes.
Things he needs to work on
1) Playmaking as the #1 option
2) Ball control (this is a career long issue, he's good but not great there and it hurts him in pressure defense like doubles)
3) Floater (He's not a Wade/LeBron elite body finisher, he could crush this zone and cover his weakness with this one addition)
4) And yes, fix his body language. He has played tough his entire career but too many attempts for cheap fouls instead of shooting suddenly in the bubble. He's a young kid that just broke out, he'll see the tape and fix it.

He’s only going to get better. Let’s not go overboard after one game. Potential is sky high.
11 titles won in LA in the modern era, while y’all living on “success” from 2 generations ago

Reminds me of Tracy McGrady. Gets all the fame in the RS, but can't flip the switch in the playoffs.

TMac never had a squad like this. And TMac was much much better and way more talented.4pointkiller wrote:Reminds me of Tracy McGrady. Gets all the fame in the RS, but can't flip the switch in the playoffs.

That offensive foul on the drive against Derrick Jones Jr. slowed him up.

He's 22 years old. Not many 22 year olds have ever been "ready", but he's as ahead of the curve as any 22 year old ever outside of Kobe, LeBron, and Durant. He's gonna be here for a long time and the series isn't over.

He’s averaging 25/10/4 on a 58% TS in the playoffs, with a +7.4 net rating. As a 22 year old lol, is that not flipping a switch?

Refs have bailed him out big time, what happens in crunch time? He just can't do it when ref isn't holding his hand.

Re: Jayson Tatum is not ready
One bad game and dude gets clowned on.
Jimmy can constantly get 12/4/3 type numbers and is an elite superstar. Not saying I don’t like Jimmy, but Tatum has been balling these playoffs and is in the ECF.
He needs to get better at his decision making at times but it’s clear he’s got everything you want in a superstar

He’s getting to the line 7.4 times a game, that’s really not being bailed out big time.
Lame changing the goalposts response there. I post the numbers, and suddenly it’s he’s only putting up awesome numbers because of the refs.

He is ready. Already proved that against the Raptors. The Heat are just better. He's going to have to take another step forward if he wants to advance though.

Re: Jayson Tatum is not ready
I mean being the best player on two ECF teams before your rookie contract is up is as good as it's going to get. Wade is really the only player I can think of in the modern NBA that's had a better run at things out the gate.
I'm not going to hold it against a young player for not finding that extra gear when he's only 22-23, especially when our system disregard that mentality. He's shown the ability to take over games, and make clutch plays. It's going to come, but like every other young guy he needs to put on more weight and become stronger, and get the respect of the refs. Once he does that he will be fine, and these deep runs will only fuel him.
Also, as a Celtics fan, it's absolutely heart breaking knowing 1/5 of our cap space is riding pine, putting the team at a natural disadvantage. It must be frustrating for a young player having your role switched constantly, and always having the "what if?" staring back at you in practice. Like another poster mentioned, Celtics are playing rookies off the bench, short rotations, and heavy minutes. I'm not worried at all.
It's rare to see a young player take over series this late in the playoffs, and Tatum has been fantastic. I speak for all Celtics fans, confidently, when I say Jayson is the face of the franchise, and we can;t wait to watch this young man compete for titles hopefully his entire career. We wouldn't trade him for any young guy in the league except Doncic probably.
