Its common and what I see as uncommon is Toppin not participating. Did he get a promise?

Smart move.

These combines are there for less known players that aren't generally regarded as top prospects to come in and demonstrate a good showing in hopes they'd convince some of the teams that they have a future as an NBA player...

LaMelo Ball is already considered a top prospect. He's got hype and people vouching for him. He shouldn't have to worry about possibly not getting a NBA contract and opportunity. So where is the upside in him doing a 'combine'?

LaMelo has more to lose than to gain from it. He's sitting comfortably right now, he has enough footage out there for teams to review. He doesn't need to come do a 'combine' and play some exhibition basketball and risk anything. He's gonna go there and compete with players that are playing like their careers are at stake, because they are, and Melo, a Top 5 prospect right now, is going to willinglybl throw himself in that situation and risk an injury or bad performance for what? Maybe getting picked 8th instead of 4th? Big deal.

Wiseman, Edwards, Okongwu, and Toppin didn't attend at all. This is not a big deal in the slightest.

I don't hold it against any projected lotto pick if they don't participate in the combine. If I knew I was going top 15 practically guaranteed I wouldn't attend the combine either. Ball is on my 'please, god, no' list for the Hornets but this isn't a reason why.

Probably the stigma his dad brings.

Lonzo has been nothing but well spoken, humble, and a low key player his entire stint since being in the league. No issues in the locker room or off. He's vanilla white as they come. He was raised right.

Yes, "for one". Aside from his dad, what problems have Lonzo Ball brought to his teams? Absolutely nothing. Blame the dad, not the kids. As far as i've seen from both LaMelo and Lonzo, they've been level-headed (aside from LaMelo's little moment out of country, but ever since he's been well behaved).

The only one messing up is LiAngelo and there's a reason why he's not in the league while the other 2 are at least lottery picks.

Lavar Ball is black Trump. They both understand that effective self-promotion is one of the best ways to create opportunities. It works - Trump turned a reality TV show into a springboard for the presidency. And Lavar is going to succeed in getting two of his sons picked at the top of the draft. People and organizations fall for it all the time, flash over substance is a common phrase for a reason.
