Example #6789 - ex-players suck at evaluating other players.

There is nothing about Bargnani's game that shows he would thrive let alone blow away the NBA. Not once in Bargnani's career did he ever average at least 10 boards per 100, just to repeat that, Im not speaking per game, per 100. His career per 36 for rebounds is 5.8. So he is a horrific rebounder, brings zero rim protection and overall horrible defender.

When it comes to the offensive side, he has more career turnovers than assists and a career average of 1.2 assists per game, so other words he is a complete zero when it comes to being a facilitating big. What about scoring, there was a couple seasons when he was putting up 19-20 ppg. For his career the average TS% for the NBA was 54%, Bargnani's career TS% is 53%.

So inefficient scorer, horrible facilitator, horrific rebounder and bad defender with no rim protection. Ya David West that guy would blow away the NBA...

Exactly.

As a Raptors fan everything you say is 100% true. Bargnani was a very flawed player who wouldn't be great in any era. He put up empty stats on one of the worst teams in the league at the time where he was the #1 option. He was overrated as a shooter as well and only shot above 37% from 3 once his career so for a 3 point shooting big he wasn't even that big of a threat from the outside.

Imo, Bargnani is most suited as a 6th man playing 15-20 minutes a night who can provide some scoring power the bench. He's kind of like a Kelly Olynyk type player, but Olynyk brings more intangibles than Bargnani did.

Yup, and just to go even deeper on your Kelly Olynyk comparison. Kelly Olynyk brings far better intangibles but even looking at the numbers he is the far superior player. Better rebounder, far better facilitator, also not a rim protector but actually gives effort on the defensive end. Then when it comes to scoring, he is actually an efficient scorer.

Just goes to show how bad Bargnani really was and any talk at all about him being able to blow the NBA away, makes me question your knowledge of the game haha.

And just to illustrate how even more dumb these guys are is that Bargnani went to the Knicks in 2013 when he was only 27 years old. The league had already changed by that time and became more 3 point oriented. If Bargnani would blown the league out of the water today he would've at least put up an all-star season between 2013 and 2016 when he was on the Knicks between the ages of 27-30. Melo was also hurt for a lot of that time so he had plenty of opportunity to become the #2 option on that team.

Bargnani retired in 2016 when he was 30. If he was a great player who could dominate the league today then he would have been dominating the last 2-3 years when he was still technically in his prime age.

Bosh would be great in today's NBA, I mean he WAS great in his era lol so that's not a hot take. For Bargnani he might do better but i can't imagine him being very good, still a defensive liability

David West is not that smart of a person.

He gave up good money to win a title even though he was a role player on the Warriors. Giving up a good amount of money as a role player is not a smart decision at all. You can give it to communities in need of money if you think you're set financially.

Big name players give up some money because winning the title results in them making more money off the court. West averaged 7 PPG and 5 PPG on the Warriors while playing 13 minutes a game.

this is now been said by ex players recently employed several times now. the acceleration of the game to that end has made the use of the old man shouting meme a bit questionable at this point

Ya, no. The difference in their impact would be minimal imo.

He's one hundred percent right about Bosh, he'd be even better than he was.

Bosh was still playing when Curry and Klay and the Warriors won their first title. So yeah, he'd be an All-NBA level player.

At best, Bargnani would be a 7th man on a team similar to Kelly Olynyk. But even Olynyk is a better shooter.

Did the Raptors destroy his ability to play defense, rebound or play hard too?

Did the Raptors take away his desire to get better?

Those things were never what made him special. I am OK that he should have done more but you have a small forward playing center in the nba that's A recipe for disaster
thats what happened to Vesely. Where I believe Vesely could have been good if developed differently, Bargnani was always doomed because of his super slow reaction type, guy had athletes body but not the brain.

Why do almost all ex-players sound so ret***ed??
Vince with the DJordan take.. D.West now with Bargnani... Rodman, Barkley... No wonder very few players make good FO guys... Look at Jordan.. Ughhh

Bargnani would've had a great career in a different era, but like...the 1950s, not today.

Bosh would probably be a top 2 or 3 big in the league right now. Bargs was simply not very good at basketball. Nothing would change that.

No, Bosh really wouldn't. Davis, Jokic, Embiid, and Giannis all at least a level, and probably more above him.

We've all had some crazy takes on here, but the amount of defending and adoration Bargnani had on here for YEARS after it was clear he was a garbage player was bizarre.

Bosh would be an all star today if he were in his prime.

Solid rebounder, good midrange shooter and draws fouls.

I think he'd better than Embiid and him and the difference between him and Jokic wouldn't be that drastic because of Bosh's versatility on defense.

Prime Bosh, yeah.

Bargnani? He would still get bodied. Plays 0 defense, mental midget, and really horrible IQ.
