LeBron and Shaq Officiated Differently?

Post#1 » by Mogspan » Tue Mar 15, 2022 9:05 pm

It's been said that since their speed + strength combos are so OP, refs have to swallow their whistles to make it a game. They've gotten superstar calls, but should their defenders have been called for fouls way more often?

If so, does that make them the clear GOATs? I feel like if you're so athletically dominant that the game has to be made artificially harder just for you, you can't be less than the true best player.

Did MJ receive more superstar treatment than anyone?

Also, something that might surprise people. I think when it comes to athleticism, agility, physical attributes and skill I rate LeBron only in the top 50.

That’s MJ on the wizards, he was practically looked at like a Demi-God. Shaq wanted to finish, he didn’t want to go to the line lol the correct answer is Shaq or Wilt.

Such a funny thread.

Title: "LeBron and Shaq officiated differently?"

The poll mysteriously adds Wilt, Zion, and Embiid, none of whom are mentioned in the post.

OP concludes with "Did MJ receive more superstar treatment than anyone?"

Well you can look at how many FTs they're getting per shot in comparison to other stars. Keep in mind those two make a living at the rim, so they should be among the guys that got more calls.

I don't think either of them gets as many calls as some other stars but... they also got away with a ton of things. Shaq wasn't called for 3 second violations he often commited or offensive fouls, LeBron usually gets away with a ton of travels and offensive fouls that aren't called...

So yeah the refs allow defenders a ton of contact on them. And they should, game would become unwatchable if LBJ or Shaq were getting to the foul line everytime a guy touches them. They become unguardable at the rim most likely. But it's not like they don't get good treatment in other areas.

Lebron does get some tough opposing calls but Wilt and Shaq were just two tiers above in terms of unguardability and officiating due to sheer dominance.
