funnily enough it does put us in the right timeline for the likes of Giannis and/or Beal.

Pelinka is setting the Lakers up for the down years of LeBron. When Bron’s performance starts declining, expect Pelinka to keep him at point and add a true superstar to matchup with AD.

No, they're far from the "best run organization." They just happen to be in the area most young athletes want to go. They do a good job of taking advantage of their situation, but if they were based in San Antonio, Utah, or Oklahoma, they wouldn't be as well run as those teams currently are.

The clippers have been in LA for more than 20 yrs now & I don’t see free agents making a bee line to sign up with them.

& as we saw with Kawhi, they had to mortgage the house, before he even considered joining them.

The Lakers are a winning franchise, 11 rings in the last 40 years. That’s a 25% winning record. Not to mention the Finals appearances, then you add 6 more.

That’s why they’ve been attractive to superstars over the decades.

Nope. Just like the Yankees and Mets in the MLB, players would rather join the storied franchise with the bigger clout and more opportunities to be marketed and pushed into the spotlight. The Lakers have been around waaaaayyyyyy longer and were winning titles before the league became this competitive. Throw in the fact that they're in LA, easy decisions for people who love spotlights. If the Clippers came to LA first, they'd be in the Lakers position now.

By your logic, it’s impossible to be a well run franchise in a prime location?

Sure the lakers are lucky that they’re in LA but that cannot be the only reason why they’ve been successful....

Did the Lakers get the league yes on removing Deng's cap hold? That could be huge.

Add Gasol and a few more vets to shore up 2/3 position and they're looking really good.

He is not overpaid at all. He was maybe their third best player during the playoffs.

His skillset IS just perfect next to Davis ans James. Reliable 3 and D Guy that can score a bit in transition.

What does the "$68m guaranteed over five years" part mean?

Goes to show you the 3 ball is massively overrated in the game today. Solid ball shooter = nearly 100 million dollar contract.

Meanwhile Dwight Howard ate Jokic's lunch last year and helped locked down the paint against pesky guards. 2 million for that is a steal but an insult at the same time.

People complaining about the deal for a proven guard who can shoot and play defense at a high level consistently.

Meanwhile Bertans, a great shooter on a scrub team gets paid 80 million/5 year deal while playing trash defense and no one bats an eye. lol

This. Also AD might be more willing to sign for more years.

Not for a contender trying to keep the band together and win another title. They have no other way of replacing him on the roster. And especially not with some of the ridiculous contracts we’ve seen handed out the last 2 days.

Someone help me understand how he was a huge piece in a championship run and someone says this. Lol. I don’t get it. When a man helps you win a chip he’s worth every penny and more.

He is talking about his first and second year with the Lakers. First year he got 18 mil and was very underwhelming, second year he got 15 mil and was just a tad better. Last year he got I think 11 and was excellent. So yeah in an overall context the Lakers have overpaid him.

Yeah last year was his first year he earned his salary and this deal is 4m a year too much

I’m of the mind that championships are so hard to get for any franchise that if someone plays a big piece in getting you one then he was worth every penny and more. You don’t think the knicks would kill to have chip regardless of the cost?

This is a solid deal for a 3 and D guard. Caldwell Pope does what he needs to do and is who he is.

He's proven. Not saying he's the best role player, just that we know what he's capable of when thrown in the fire. Worth the money.

I didn't say that. I'm just saying the Lakers are definitely not the "best run organization."

Just saying. 2yrs 28mil with the 2nd year a partial guarantee, that's like a super duper easy contract to dump for pure cap space to teams that miss out on their FA targets in 2021. Getting a proven championship vet SG/SF who defends well and hits the 3 at a high clip for that price point is just a gimme... and the Lakers would only put him up on the market if they get a promise from a superstar to join the Lakers max cap space.

He was a 11 PER player last season. Nice player off the bench but reliable isn’t a word I’d use to describe his play.
