I think he could be worth more than that on the open market, he is a solid player. After seeing Jermai Grant get 20 million a season I don't blame him. He's betting on himself, hopefully it pays off for him.

I looked at the source, nowhere does it say that he turned that down. It's more that he didn't try to negotiate an extension and would rather test restricted free agency.

Honestly, he could probably get more. He's coming off a very promising season, I wouldn't take that if I knew I could get more

He can get 70 if he continues were he left off.

I don't think this is a Nerlens Noel situation. He could really get paid next year.

That's roughly what's he worth. I don't see him getting more than 15/year, but good luck to him

Carmelo's backup turned down 10M/year? Nuts.

if simons and hood play well, hes not going to get enough pt. This may backfire since he is already playing behind 2 all stars. Its more likely than not this doesnt work out.

Smart gamble since he seems to be a good player

He shot 40% from three in his age 21 season while having a very impressive bubble run leading into the playoffs. He outplayed this offer IMO. Another team could easily throw more at him in RFA and dare Portland to match.
FWIW, OP should change the thread title. It's a 4 year 53.7M dollar extension, not 5.

It is very hard for him to continue where he left off. Dude was shooting like 60% from 3 lol.

3-and-D 2/3 as fringe starter is KCP money. He's a better shooter than KCP. Two years of adding NBA muscle and everyone will look back on this saying how smart he was to bet on himself. That's barely above MLE money. Hats off to him.

I'm sure he could have negotiated a 4 year deal

I hope this is a sign Gary Trent plans on working his butt off and becoming a player worth paying 15m+ a year to

3 and D wings are the most in demand commodity in the league. Don't blame him betting on himself.
