Is Tilman Fertitta the worst owner in the NBA?

Post#1 » by Secret Lover14 » Wed Jan 13, 2021 10:17 pm

Ever since this guy took over, he has made some head scratching moves. This Rockets team were basically one half away from an NBA championship and he **** the bed on any chance for one. Every trade/move since then was not to make the team better, but to save money.

The Houston Rockets look like they are on the path of the James Dolan Knicks, Donald Sterling Clippers, and the Robert Sarver Suns where they would be in the lottery for the next decade. Don't get me started on attracting free agents. Who wants to play for this cheap and stingy dictator.

Its pretty clear he just bought the rockets to make money and will spend the bare minimum. Total cancer, how they let this guy in as an owner is a joke.

He’s definitely in the team photo with Dolan, Sarver, and Ranadive.

No I don't think so, he's just not super wealthy relatively and is being pragmatic.

Dolan is the worst imo, given his, ahem, body of work over 25 years now. But Fertitta has worked his way into being of the top three worst owners in an impressively short period of time.

Houston has the second highest payroll in the league. Feritta is a CEO in the business hardest hit by COVID. I'm not saying he's a good owner. I just disagree about spending the bare minimum.

The rockets took a shot with the CP move and it didn't workout. Then they took another shot with Westbrook and extreme small ball and that failed. After those 3 shots they were clearly out of ammo and it was time to reverse course and move into asset collection mode. There is nothing wrong with recognizing that your time has past and you had to make a choice between being stuck in no man's land and rebuilding. I look for them to move Oladipo to a contender for a couple more 1sts in the next month or 2. Also Wall looks healthy so he may end up having some value as well next year.

I think without question, the answer is yes. He went from a team with 2 first ballot hall of famers and a top 3 GM in the league to Victor Oladipo.

This guy is a complete joke

The dramatic turnaround in two years is undeniable. Rockets been completely ruined is such a fast fashion.

Fertita came into this league with as ideal a situation as you could ask for. All he had to do was pay up.

I feel sorry for the guy, he's a restauranteur in a pandemic. He's probably lost a fortune this year.

Don't think he was the owner when they got CP3. He came in after, weakened the team blatantly to save money, made the Westbrook trade and seems to be screwing up the asset collection part (apparently also to save money). All in between pissing players off, giving high positions to relatives, taking down a storied mural in the arena to plaster his and his family's pictures etc

He added no salary past this year, he got 10 million off the books for this year. The picks they got are gonna be in the high 20's for the next 4 years. They got no proven young players back (and he had the chance). The win for the Rockets is purely financial.
