I don't like the increase of 3 this year (i've been ok with it last 3-4 years, but this year is overkill). However, I don't think it's as simple as removing the corner 3. I think there is a big risk is thee 3 is not there, noone will want to shoot from there for 2 points. It will go from the best shot to the worst shot in basketball. So that area will be empty and paint more crowded.

also, curious to see how many players are shooting 50/40 this year. It feels like there is an unusually high amount of guards/wings shooting 50+%

I think this plays a bigger role than everyone thinks. Its almost like a scrimmage or practice atmosphere during games. Its got to be easier to hold your concentration without 20000 people screaming at you.

The game has changed, it's a chuck fest.

You used to be able to name/count the 3 point specialists in the league on one hand.
Guys like Craig Hodges made a career being a 3 point specialist.

Barely 5 years ago people coveted Kyle Korver.
Now the guy can't find a job!

You'd still need spacers but the ones who can truly do it at higher percentages would brew fewer.

Good point, but on the flip side, tired legs usually lead to short shots.

I took a quick look at 3 players on the Nets ... Harden seems affected shooting on 0 days rest, but Joe Harris and Jeff Green seem unaffected. Green is shooting a ridiculous 50% with 0 days rest.

It's worth a deeper look, but I suspect the biggest difference is the lack of a disadvantage for teams on the road this season.

Let defenders actually defend and it will sort itself out. Right now, we have an artificial boom in uber efficient 3point shooting thanks to the referees calling fouls on any contact at all - whether the defender grazes the shooter on a pick or if the shooter jumps into the defender. Nearly every single screen is illegal as well.

Big men in the paint get mauled and bumped without a whistle (unless you're Embiid) and the perimeter players cannot be touched without a call. It's unbalanced.

League needs to allow 3 point line to be defended. I swear on every NBA game there is 4-5 bricked 3 point shots that just get ignored as result of a foul because someone breathed on the likes of Curry while running past them while trying to contest shot.

It’s Lebron Dirk and D’Antoni fault that this is happening.

Players from even 10 years ago cannot shoot like the guys shooting right now.

Because what you are suggesting is that guys from the 60's...you know those plumbers who played in the league...if they just practiced more could be just as good as the guys now...or is that not what you are saying.....

Random chance says a missed jumpers should equally clank off any point of the rim. When you see them clanking off the front rim, it's a sign of shooting fatigue.

Which isn't to say there aren't other factors. Some players may enjoy the chance to play every day and stay in a rhythm.

It would be interesting to look at. Tired legs also produce less space because of less movement.

Totally agree this is part of it.

I get the feeling a lot of teams that played late into the bubble aren’t trying that hard on defence too because of the quick turnaround.

You can see it watching the games. A lot of teams are just sagging from the perimeter towards the paint

I wish they would just call illegal and moving screens. This would make the game much more watchable.

Sorry to be the only one not screaming "get off my lawn" but it only makes sense that more teams actually draw up plays for 3 pointers and the players are simply more comfortable than they have ever been.

there's alot of x-factors that are not there thanks to covid and i think that's the main reason.
