The best defensive player in NBA

Post#1 » by SUPERVILLAIN » Thu Feb 25, 2021 5:24 am

This is an extension from my last topic. I like to see more discussions about defense. So I'm going to create 10 topics/polls to set who are the top 10 defensive players according to RealGM.

First, who's the best defender in NBA?

PS go ahead nominate a player who deserves to be included in the next poll

I think if you watch Dray enough, you'll realize he is the best. He can and does guard 1-5, sometimes in the same possession. He's playing at an elite level defensively this year.

If you needed one stop, to win it all... You aren't picking Gobert, you are picking Kawhi. Gobert is a great center, but Kawhi is the best locked-in defender in the league.

Or Anthony Davis, size of offensive player pending.

Green sits firmly in my top 10 list.

But he is certainly not the best of the best anymore. He is no longer playing small ball center as great as he used to.

LeBron shouldn't be on this list at all at this point, neither should Kawhi, neither are elite defensively anymore

i think right now it's pretty clearly Gobert, after that you can make a case for a bunch of players

Statmuse says that LeBron is currently fourth in defensive rating. I simply have to respect the numbers.

1. Gobert
2. Turner
3. Embiid
4. LeBron
5. Giannis

Gobert is on a tier by himself at the moment. Dont know why LeBron is on the list. Kawhi when he decides to turn it on can still be his elite perimeter shut down guy, but he isnt nearly consistent enough to be considered a top tier defender.

Guys like Jrue, Smart, Dort all play better defense more consistently than guys like LeBron and Kawhi now.

Gobert changes the game with his defense. With all due respect to the rest, he is on a different level right now. It's nice to see an interior defender still having this type of impact.

Give me AD in the playoffs.

We do this same dance ever year. ADs versatility >>> He just doesn’t have it in him to dominate a whole season on either end.

It's Gobert, but i haven't seen someone defend Lillard this season as good as Ben Simmons did one or two weeks ago, he's the best perimeter defender in this league imo.

Gobert, Simmons, Draymond, Smart, Covington, Giannis, Jrue Holiday, Turner, Bam, AD

Kawhi can surely be the best one on one wing defender when locked in, but it’s like his defensive bbiq evaporated when it comes to team defense.

But he's not the same Kawhi anymore.

Ben over Gobert right now, strictly because of versatility

Gobert without a second thought

If i was looking for more perimeter defenders, Still Gobert because of his ability to blanket the Paint and elevate guys like Bogan/Ingles/Niang to not be exposed if defenders get around them, Because you have Gobert who's going to see it happen and still be able to meet you in the Paint to alter your open lane basket to a contest

You can argue that AD/Kahwi ect. are better players, and Ild agree, but talking about defense, nah
