Luka Garza

Post#1 » by HypeMode » Tue Mar 23, 2021 4:26 am

is going to be good in the NBA. He is going to be the talent that falls into the 2nd round like DeJuan Blair that teams overthink and ends up having a productive 10 year career.

Offensive yes. But can he defend in space well enough to get enough burn?

Maybe he becomes an "okayish" backup big because of his offensive skills but Garza is going to be targeted defensively every time he is on the court.

He’s the guy that gets with nutritionists, trainers and with some PEDs transforms his body. It’ll make him a matchup nightmare on offense and since nobody plays defense anyway, his challenges there are overblown. Lots of awful GMs will pass on him

Someone will give him an initial contract, and then he’ll be out of the league in 3-4 years.

Maybe he can become Enes Kanter. I'd take him in the second round no problem

I think his future's in Europe, and I don't mean it as a bad thing. I think his style will translate perfectly to a game where big men who can produce so much inside are still valued (and unlike some of them, he can also shoot the 3 at a good clip).

luka has good offensive skill set (3-pointer, mid range, pnr, low post) and that makes him an nba player, however, he looks slow to me, like marjanovic, so he would be liability defensively

hopefully someone drafts him and gives him a chance and even if he doesnt succeed in the nba, theres future for him in europe as someone already said, which is still an amazing accomplishment for a bball player, cause after nba, its in europe where the best bball is being played... however it goes, i wish him luck

Unless something drastically changes about Luka Garza's body movement. He's not an NBA player. Epic level college baller, but I don't see anything that translates to the NBA game. This is the exact kind of player that front offices have learned to avoid in the draft. His combination of size and skill is overwhelming at the college level, but wont be in the NBA. What kind of player is he once he isn't overwhelming anyone with that combination?

He'll be a great player in Europe. He doesn't look like he has anywhere near the athleticism necessary to play in the NBA. There's nothing wrong for that. The NBA is really specific in some ways.

If he has some sort of radical change to his athleticism (it does happen, Kelly Olynyk took a year off to work on his coordination), this could change. But right now I don't see an NBA player at all.

Worth spending a second round pick at least. His college stats are eye popping
Reminds me a lot of Grizzlies legend Bryant Reeves

He could be another Kaminsky, good college basketball player , unsuccessful NBA player. He looks less explosive than Jokic .

Denver better draft Filip Petrusev if he falls to second round, that would be super steal and good back up for Jokic.

One thing I always look for in NBA prospects playing in the NCAA is how easy they get their buckets. There is some magic and mystery in terms of what translates, but a red flag for me is guys who are heroically scrapping for every inch in the NCAA. They're winning those battles (by the skin of their teeth) right now, but what happens when you increase the size and atheleticism of their competition. Will they still win those battles. I learned this lesson with Adam Morrison. He got Larry Bird comps because of his intensity and high skill level at 6'8. Adam Morrison highlights were him attacking defenses with everything he had, throwing mutiple fakes, pivots, bumps to scrap for that one inch of space he needed to get his shot off. Well that one inch he was able to get, auto-evaporated in the NBA, and no amount of scrapping was going to get him that. Luka Garza screams Adam Morrison to me. He has zero hops and generally needs 2-3 moves to open up space for his that sweeping hook. He has a beautiful quick shooting release, but even in college, guys are closing the gap on him quick. He always feels like he's jussssst getting the shot off, even if he's doing it 20 times per game. That crucial little bit of space he's getting right now isn't attainable in the NBA, so unless something happens where he can generate more space, he wont be an NBA player. The opposite of this comp for me was Jayson Tatum. Tatum wasn't a super impressive college player, but I saw him out there kind of loafing into easy pull ups and open dunks and thought: oh the college game is easy for him even if he's not impressing me with the way he competes right now. He's definitely going to be able to get shots off in the NBA.

Doesn't he have the same skillset/weaknesses as Kanter?
