I'm not saying he should win it, but I'm not not saying that either.

At first glance his stats don't look like much on an improvement, but a deeper look shows that he's made a massive improvement to his game.

Hi minutes are down and he's attempting the least amount of shots in his career, but he's leading the entire league in 3 point shooting. He's hitting 57% of his 3s. Last season he hit 40%. He's NEVER been above 40%.

His efg% is a whopping .703%. His previous high was 59% in 2016-17.

His overall FG% is 51%. His previous high was 45% in 2016-17.


He's in his 8th year in the league and out of nowhere has had a noticeable massive improvement in his game. If that's not what MIP award was designed for I don't know what was.


Starting this thread because I think this long time end of the bench vet deserves a little recognition for his seemingly out of nowhere improvement to his game.

I mean..he's Tony Snell.Anything could be an improvement for Tony Snell.Btw he was 2 times above 40% 3pt with nice volume in his two first Milwaukee seasons.

You want someone whose mpg, ppg and apg declined from last year to be in the Most IMPROVED Player conversation?

Respectfully, there's no argument here for 'massive improvement' (a phrase you used multiple times in this thread). This just looks like a career shooting specialist having a good shooting spell in a small sample. Snell scores 5 ppg and has made 46 3s this year; he could have literally one bad game and shoot like 1/10 from 3 and his shooting would slip down 10%. Another bad game or two and he's back below league average. In addition to the sample size issue, he's also scoring a ludicrously low 10pts per 36, which is below his career average and would put him in the bottom 10% or so of rotation players for volume. (He's also shot exactly 2 FTs this whole season). He's always been low volume but it's tough to make a case for 'improvement' when you're decreasing your volume from already bottom-shelf levels.

Not saying Snell hasn't improved, saying we really can't know if he has based on only 46 shots and 5 ppg. And I don't think anyone thinks the MIP award was designed for deep back-ups who have made no noticeable change to their game but are hitting 1 more shot per week than they did in previous seasons.

I think it's nice to point out Snell's improvement. But your tactic of using the MIP award to discuss it is just going to produce negative reactions. If you want him to get some positive attention for his shooting improvements, don't make a hyperbolic suggestion like this. People will show up on this thread just to hate on Snell now.

On a related note. I think the lack of crowds are and obvious factor on a lot of players shooting performances this year. Having never attempted an open 3 or free-throw while 20,000 people boo me, I can't say how hard it is. I think it's something mostly taken for granted.

Me too. I think if he's your 4th wing you feel pretty good about it. Especially since his next contract is going to be much smaller than his current one.

with all the injuries we've had he's gone from end of the bench DNP-CD to now starting. He's done a fantastic job playing well in whatever role he's been given night in night out. Snell knows his lane and how to stay in it. Great trait to have for a guy who has his role changing throughout the season.

The fact that it's not clear whether or not this thread is a joke is concerning to me.

There's no way the OP would legitimately make a case for Snell for MIP.... right?

All his per-minute stats are right around where they've always been except the guy is hitting 3s like he's in a practice gym. He hasn't actually improved at anything except being ignored by defenses.
