At 33 now I've found myself going back to playing video games from when I was a kid. Sega Genesis classics, Mario, and stuff like that. If friends are over then really any sports game is fine we just like playing together. Honestly though, with a newborn and a wife it's not often I have time for video games anymore.

I'd rather play Sonic the Hedgehog or Streets of Rage 2 where I at least get to play an entire game than something like 2K or COD where they want me to buy the rest of the game they didn't finish after I bought the physical game.

I only care about playing Exhibition, Season, and GM Mode, and those have all remained exactly the same for maybe a decade.

Even myplayer is pretty messed up now imo. I always liked to build and play a Shaq style C, but the games ideal C is now like 6'9. My 7 footer who is spec'd into speed and vertical isn't fast enough to run the fast break drill...

Everything after 2k15 absolutely blows.

I fired up my old Dreamcast a few nostalgic weeks ago, and they cracked the enjoyable NBA experience 20 years ago. Obviously more arcade-y, but the controls, plays and movements were are all more natural. Plus Antoine Walker was made for modern NBA. Such a better quality game than the excuse that is 2k19 (last one I bought) - so glitchy and frustrating gameplay.

Somebody needs to make a new basketball game. 2k went to **** after Sega sold and died.

I know this for over ten years now. micro transactions have completely ruined the 2k series. Remember watching a YouTube that should how many of the ps2 era nba games had wayyyyy more content then now and your basically paying things that use to be free. Complete and utter BS.

I usually just play:

NBA Maximum Hangtime
NBA 2K11
NBA 2K12
NBA Street Vol.1
NBA Street Vol.2
Konami's Run and Gun 2

As for NFL:
NFL 2K5
NFL Blitz 2000 Gold Edition
Madden 2001
Madden 2002

That's it. Nowadays, they make games too complicated, too overloaded, and with a micro transaction angle. Electronic Arts killed the NFL videogame scene. 2K Sports killed the NBA 2K scene. They became their own worst enemy since they don't have competition.

You don't have a billion bells? Hit me up if you need some bells, I barely play these days so I'm just sitting on them.

Has anybody mentioned how they’ve made these newer games to be EXTREMELY grindy progression-wise.

Things that would’ve taken a few hours to rank up will now take weeks to months. By doing this, they’ve incentivized pay to play mechanics & have turned every single game into an arms race of who can buy everything the fastest.

Being 99 overall use to mean something. Now every one buys 99 overall on the first day.

It wouldn’t be that bad if you could filter out who you play against but they intentionally match you up with players who have bought everything.

Agreed. I can't name any other game type besides your standard FPS that not only has micro-transactions in-game but also releases a new title annually that amounts to a slightly updated roster and a loss in progress. You pay for the new game and then re-pay in-game for what you had in the previous one. No brainer it's a rip-off, but EA is pretty damn convincing.

Have to agree and I buy every 2k game for the simple fact that I like the my park aspect.

Of course this year will be my last one. Only so many times I have the desire to play as someone that somehow makes it into the NBA even though he has zero ability to dribble, shoot, rebound, dive, dunk, play D or make layups.

Game just turns into a grindy mess and the only way to compete is to but VC.

Still my favorite NBA game. Just because of this wicked soundtrack. And KG was like 99 overall iirc.

I don't know if you think about it it's not just sports video games, it's the entire video game industry and everything in general that have turned into a big fat cash grab that creates a shallow and empty existence.

People can call me the ole' man yelling at the clouds all they want, but the whole thing has become a tale of two cities by Charles Dickens come into reality where no matter how skilled you are at a game it's useless in the end if someone who's half as good can just buy a bunch of crap and nullify any advantage you may have had. I much prefer the Legend of Zelda games and the other Nintendo games from the old childhood along with other RPG games. GTA was fun, but man I feel so out of touch now it's actually depressing when you think about it even though I'm not 30 yet.

I didn't mind the sports games, hell NBA jam 99 along with NFL quarterback club 98 was what got me into those 2 sports and it was fun. I felt that the older I got, the more disillusioned I became with it, save for Golden Sun and Legend of Zelda. Oh well could be worse.

I'm an offline player and love 2k18 but can't stand 2k19, 20, or 21. I still drop $60 on them every year hoping to get a product closer to 17 or 18 again but no luck, so they just sit there collecting dust. I say I'm not buying 22 but I probably will....

The Show is the best game right now.
