A player that you can win a title with him as the clear cut best player of your team.

He had one great shot in the Finals last year and everyone thinks hes Jesus.

Easy to look like a God when youre playing with the best player in the world.

I think of a superstar being someone who's around All-NBA 2nd team caliber. You can win a championship with them as one of your best two players. Someone who is either elite at one thing, good at a couple of other things, has a negligible weakness on another, or someone with basically no significant flaws. Usually around a top 12-15 player.

For me it’s the guy that 95 % to 98 % of the time shows up to games (know what I mean?) and fills up the stat sheet or makes an impact in the game in other ways. Maybe once a season he is excused if he has a stinker game, but you better believe he is elite most of the time.

A player who can take below average team to a playoff team . A player who performs night in and night out at high level . A player who can score inside and out . A player who can defend well . Only few of those in the league. A lot all stars few superstars

Setting the bar a little too high.

I would say there are at least a dozen guys that should qualify as superstars.

To me, it's nothing that can be defined by stats but instead a player who not only has the presence to uplift those around him but strike fear into opponents. Somebody you can't slack off on because they have a history of crushing the soul of opponents without notice and whose existence makes teams play frantically and out of character when things get tight.

Coming from a non-Lebron fan, I think he embodies this. I'd also place Durant in this category and can't count out Leonard yet, he's been there.

Generally a league MVP or the best player on a championship team.

a guy who is able to adjust to the adjustments of another team 2-3 times and still dominate. People who just rely on their best skill and do well until a team figures it out in a series are not that for me, unless that one thing is truly transendent like hardens iso. I think kobe is a great example because he could adjust to anything you wanted to do to him.

Or a guy who is just elite in so many facets of the game like giannis is.

What about westbrook. The on/off stat stuff is what it is, but guys just seem to have career years and improve when he comes to town

The guy who has most of the media narratives. Most entertaining player to watch in the league. Player who can be a 1st option on a championship team.

Current: LeBron and Curry
Potentially: Luka Doncic

Guys like Paul George, Kyle Lowry, Rudy Gobert, Joel Embiid, Nikola Jokic and even Giannis Antetokounmpo don't have the full package to be a superstar

He's the guy you want with the ball in his hands to win the game and you have a high expectation he does it.

dunk, 3 point shot or even a mid range shot. doesn't matter.

These six for sure and there has to be at least two other guys:

Embid
Leonard
Irving
Butler
Giannis
Lillard

At first this guy has to be fundamentally sound, he MUST have the ability to do it all when needed, this guys has to have a clear pet move too, a move that he is nearly unstoppable and is pretty hard to negate him to do it. In addition, he needs to not be afraid of the big moments, not a big believer of clutch genes, or something like that, but the player cant be afraid to try the go ahead drive, to pull up for the buzzer beater, if he can do it in the entire game, so he can do in the dire defining moment.

Winning is also important to validate all those skills, but not a must for me.

My list is pretty small to be honest, Lebron, KD, Kawhi, and Jokic is nearing it for me, but need validation.

Those are the guys I would pick to win a title if I already had a good roster assembled. If the owner gives me a good roster, with savy vets, one or two borderline all stars and ask me one more piece to win a title those are the names I'm asking for to guarantee the title

Someone a casual fan can recognize. There are only 3-5 superstars at any given time. An mvp candidate.
