Kawhi load mangment has really affected his overall career and the fact he blew 3-1 just last playoff doesn’t help his case

I would say there are at least a dozen guys that should qualify as superstars.

I think this is a solid list, the only guys i would add are Giannis (2x MVP and still so young) and Kawhi (shown he can carry a team)

Guys like Luka, Zion and Embiid (health) are on the cusp

Giannis playoffs performances have taken him out of the discussion ,I look at Kawhi and how much time he’s missed during his career which really hurts his case

I'd say this is a well created list. If Embiid/Lillard/Doncic/Harden/Joker can get to the finals they vault into tier 1.

Edit: Since this is my opinion, not the media's opinion, here is mine. I have two.

A - The primary or secondary star of a team who takes over a playoff series and wins it.
B - The primary or secondary star of a team who takes over a city and owns it for 8 years or more.
* Lillard is a great example as he has accomplished both A and B.


Here is what I think is the media's. A player who warrants his own shoe commercial. Not kidding here. I think Westbrook actually arrived in the media's eyes when he started doing those great shoe commercials.

Clear leader of the team, doesn't defer but will take criticism. True alpha bordering on sociopath, and will do whatever it takes to win. If he doesn't take the last shot, it's because he was triple teamed.

A player that uplifts his team by a large amount and continues to find ways to do so in the playoffs and when opponents key in on him. It's pretty much inexcusable for a superstar to lose in the playoffs unless it's to another superstar or a championship caliber team.

I would say that the line between your tier two and tier tree guys is very thin.

Doncic has yet to prove himself in the playoffs.

I don't know that I would take Lillard over Kyrie or Butler.

I think what makes a SS with basketball talent is attitude. Lots of guys with all kinds of physical or
developed talent through hard work, lack that certain thing that separates them from the merely
good players.

On Portland's team, its what separates Lillard from CJ for both guys are of similar size and physical
talent but Dame is able to really expand his game when its really needed for Dame in his game
winning shot vs OKC simply knew he would make that final shot, no matter how far out.

the bar must be set high otherwise there is no point. it should be exclusive not inclusive. relatively speaking, a low bar is for all star teams

I would say top 2% in NBA skill plust top 2% in desire to win.

it was a different league back then. less focus on advanced stats and more focus on the highlights. Tmac and VC were definitely superstars from a highlights perspective.
